Restoring a jail broken ipad

- Backup: back-up your data using iTunes, and as an added measure, manually copy your photos and contacts(or anything you deem important) to your laptop using iPhoto and/or iFunbox for example. Or sync everything with iCloud. I say that because sometimes backed-up data of jailbroken devices is corrupted and cannot be restored.

- Restore mode: turn off your iPad. Connect it to your laptop. Start iTunes on your laptop. Now press and hold power button + home button together for ~12 seconds, then release power button but keep pressing home button for ~15 seconds. iTunes should now say it detected an iPad in restore mode and prompt you to download and install the latest software. Accept, and leave your iPad connected and undisturbed until it finishes the download and restore which could take long if you have a slow Internet connection (the file is ~1.5GB).

- Once done, your iPad will restart with the new firmware. You can choose at this point to restore the back-up or manually syncing data back to your iPad.
