No AirPort card installed °_° (wifi crash)

If I have this correct the card that the airport plugs into is an I/O card, I think it has all the external ports on it including the magsafe (ties in with may crash faster when on mains). Therefore the hardware chain is airport card into I/O card into logic board. Before spending anymore money I would try the following:

-Reset PRAM - power on and then hold command-option-P-R wait until you have heard the boot chime a couple of times, it would also do not harm to reset the SMC pop battery out and unplug from mains and then hold power button down for 10 seconds, I am not sure if this ties in with airport or not but as magsafe and airport card are on the same board I am guessing.

-Retest to see if problem still present.

-Reinstall OS and apply all updates, at this point I would not install any other apps, not clear from above if you did or not.

-Retest.

-Next I would open up the unit and disconnect and reconnect all the cables relating to the hardware, so that would be the the airport card into the slot and the connector between the I/O board and the logic board. I also get a can of compressed air and blow all connectors just to be on safe side.

-put it all back together and you guessed, retest.

If you suspect heat download a monitor app to see if it shows the machine getting warm, I like iStat for this sort of thing. The other thing is to try and note times when you start and times of failure to see if it is the same length or varying. It will help with knowing if you have fixed it.

If none of the above work replace hardware, starting with airport card (which as long as it was from a reputable source should be OK so not really the next thing as already done), so then the I/O board, if that does not work you are looking at a logic board which is expensive.

I had exactly the same problem as stated above. Also tried the reset steps without success. But I have possible cause and a solution.

I opened up my MacBook Pro 17 and started it up with the keyboard lifted off. While pinging in a terminal window I could see that the connection was dropped when I applied slight pressure with my fingertip on the airport card. The airport card also disappeared from my system so I had produced the same fault as I experienced before.

When doing this I could also hear some electrical squeaking noises. I disconnected the antennas, unscrewed and reseated the airport card. (The yellow tape is difficult to remove, I cut it in half on the spot to be able to reseat the card)

When examining the keyboard I could see that it had a slight bend in it downwards toward the motherboard and that was probably causing me to apply pressure on the airport card when I rested my hands on the keyboard to type, or, sometimes even by itself.

When putting the keyboard back on, I made a slight bend in it backwards especially around the area of the airport card to get some more space between there.

It is now running without any problems, and I make sure not to lift the computer with only the one hand on the airport card side.

I've got a MacBook Pro 17” 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo Mid 2007.

My Airport works well at startup and after a random time it goes off. When it goes off the only way I can get it to work again is to restart the Mac.

I thought it can be a software problem too and I've format my system with Snow Leopard. The problem still there.

I reset PRAM and SMC too ... still there

I have the same problem with my mac.

What should I do? Format my laptop or change my Airport card.

Some people say there is no solution. I can’t take my laptop to an Apple Store because no I’m live in a country where there is no Apple Store.

I too have the same problem. I have a Macbook 13" A1280 and the airport card just quit out of the blue. It says "Airport card not detected" and it won't allow me to turn airport card on. If I reboot it about a dozen times it will suddenly be working again, but will inevitably crash they system. The only thing I can do at this point is reboot and hope the airport card will be detected after reboot, but it's a 50/50 chance. Most often it is not detected.

After reading the forum posts here I think I'll just bring it to the Apple store and see what they come up with. I'll post what they say here.

I solved this problem with my original Leopard installation disc.

Boot from the DVD, and run verify disk and repair disk from Disk Utility. I don’t know for how long this gonna work.

Phew, yes. My problem started when I installed a 1TB hard drive instead of the DVD drive.

I bought a kit from MCE Tech, installed it and reinstalled everything onto the new disk. No problems so far, except. "Wi-Fi hardware could not be found" I did all the things proposed including erasing the HD and reinstalling Lion and everything else. No change.

So now I've bought a new WiFi-card for my MBP 13' mid 2010 from Hong Kong and tools from IFixIt. Tonight I sat down (in Stockholm, Sweden) to assemble the kit. I got as long as "Removing the 6,5mm torx screws" when I realized that this screwdriver was not mentioned in the IFixIt manual'... Ok, so I had to close the MBP again, order a new screwdriver and now I'm waiting for it to arrive. I'll get back to you with my progress.

I have this same problem with my 2007 era MacBook Pro 17". It's definitely temperature related. When the systems fan kicks on, I have only about 2 minutes until the WiFi goes away.

I have replaced the Airport Card several times. Have reseated the connections. I temporarily "solved" the problem by using an external screen and keyboard, putting the system on a laptop cooler, and aiming a small fan at it. I could keep it running all day like that, as long as the fan was on. As soon as the fan went off and the system heated up, everything would go off.

I wonder if there's a bad solder joint to the AirportCard connector, or perhaps the connection to the antenna is heat sensitive. The software used to tell me there was no Airport card, when the WiFi crashed. It doesn't do that with the latest OS I'm using. Rather, it just stops seeing all WiFi hotspots.

If anyone has any further info on this I'd appreciate it.

Which side of the computer is the card on?

I would think with all these troubles Apple should fix these for free. I have the same problem, I cannot get access to my WiFi, though every other device at my house can. I have a 2008 MacBook Pro and this has been going on for years because I am too cheap to by a card, but after looking at the comments, the card might not be the problem. Has anyone spoken with Apple?

I Finally bought a used I/O card and Airport card since then everything has been working fine.

I was having the same issue. What solved it for me was simply plugging it directly to the modem with the ethernet cable. Turning off my computer while plugged in, and once it recognized the internet via ethernet, it got all of the information it needed to reboot my Airport card. While plugged in I tried connecting wirelessly and sure enough, it recognized the wifi and not it works like a charm. Hope this is the same solution for yours. Blessings
