Not powering on (no water damage)

My retina macbook pro will not power on, however there is absolutely no water damage. I've never dropped it, etc.

The battery does take a charge, goes from orange to green until fully charged and it will stay green. I can even perform an SMC reset, using the power button, shift, control option. This leads me to believe the keyboard is obviously being recognized (charger changes colors when performed.)

Any input as to what it could be? Obviously, logic board failure is a guess, but has anyone had similar scenarios? It seems like when the logic board fails, usually SMC resets are not possible, and on mine, it is possible. So that gives me a tiny bit of hope. Any help is appreciated.

What was the last thing going on before this behavior started? Did you upgrade OS. install an app, or peripheral?

Have you held the power button down for more than 10 seconds?

Have you been inside the box (disconnecting or not properly reconnecting the ribbon cable to the keyboard/power button). If the ribbon cable is not correctly aligned and pushed all the way back into the connector it may only be making partial contact/transfer.

Getting that ribbon back into the cam-lock slot is tricky. I use a strip of blue painters masking tape to make a strap or handle to help lift and torque the cable into proper position.

It is possible that the power button has failed.

One thing you could try would be to disconnect the mains (charger) open the box and just disconnect the battery and leave it 24 hrs. reconnect the battery. Place the bottom on the box (no need to screw everything down just yet) and try to power on. Sometimes a capacitor may be keeping current going and the no power reset will cure that.

If this answer is acceptable please remember to return and mark it accepted.

The problem started after shutting down for the night and starting it back up. I may have installed a firmware update fairly recently, but don't remember for sure. I have held the power button down for over 10 seconds, to no avail.

On the retina, they provide a sturdy tab for getting the keyboard ribbon back in there, and it's securely in properly. Also, the power button is a keyboard button on the retina's, and it was recognized by the smc reset, so it's unlikely it has failed. (Also jumped the power pads to double check if it was the keyboard/power key, and it did nothing.)

I'm taking your advice on the last suggestion and have disconnected the battery. Luckily, there's almost no need to put back in the bottom case screws at all on the retina while working, as it snaps into place magnetically.

I have had a similar problem, with my Macbook my charger looked like it was working, and the SMC reset went by with flying colours but it would still not switch on. My advice is that it could be a logic board failure like you thought or it could be as simple as a dodgy charger. Mine had lights going and the mac power 'brick' would eventually heat up as normal. If you can try testing your computer charging with a friend. Otherwise it is most likely a logic board failure.

Hook it up to an external display and see if it's generating a video signal to help isolate the problem.
