My phone got water in it and won't turn on.

I went swimming one day in the pool and forgot my phone was in my pocket. I always have my phone on so when I tried to use it by pressing the ON button nothing happened. Is it possible to save my phone or do I have to buy a new one?

Brandon Phillips, skip the Rice. It is good for cooking but has no place in electronic repair. It is the equivalent of doing nothing. Anytime any device gets exposed to water (or other liquids), it will have to be cleaned. The problem by not cleaning it, is corrosion and short circuiting components. The very first thing you want to do is to no longer use, charge, or try to turn your phone on. Remove the battery. Then you need to totally disassemble your phone. Once you have it disassembled, you do want to clean the logic board. For that part of the job, follow this guide. It was written for an iPhone, but all the points are still pertinent to your phone as well. Depending on the amount of corrosion, you may have to do it a few times. Take your time and be diligent about cleaning it. Check the board for any missing or damaged components. Do not forget to clean all the connectors as well as the USB port. Once you have it cleaned, replace the battery and then re-evaluate for any damage and repair those one at a time. Hope this helps, good luck.

I have been told that the best way to dry small electronics is to put them in a container of rice. The rice is so dry it should evaporate any liquid. Do this as soon as possible.

Dan, somebody definitely told you wrong. It is a big myth that using Rice as a desiccant will work. It does not work for any electronic device. At least you would have to take it apart before you place it in rice. Also, review the action of desiccants, those do not evaporate liquids.
