Easiest way to replace an FPC connector?

Hi all!

I replaced my display assembly on my HTC One (M7) and I have accidentally broken 2 FPC connectors: the one for the display and the one for the micro-USB port. I've been digging arround the webs for the past few hours and it seems that I can order the connectors separately from a few websites. However, I am not sure whether I can replace them or not. I've seen a guy on YouTube replacing the FPC connectors on a One X using a heat gun to desolder them. Long story short, I don't have a heat gun and even if I did, looks like a tough job.

Now, to the point: is there any "easy" way of replacing those connectors on the motherboard?

Also, as the bottom part of the connectors is not damaged, would there be any way to just place the top part on top and make sure it stays there?

Any help would be much appreciated.

It is not going to be easy. I know this thread is over a year old, but others who come here will still be seeking the answer.

Step 1. You'll need Aluminum Tape, Solder, 99% Alchohol, Braided Copper Wire, Liquid Lead Free Flux, Solder Iron, Heat Gun.

Step 2. Place the Aluminum Tape surrounding area you will use heat gun on, it's a good idea to use it on both the top and bottom of the board, the tape acts as a shield from the heat so other parts don't fall off or become damaged in the process.

Step 3. Apply some Liquid Flux to solder points. Use the Solder Iron to heat up the old solder. Use the Braided Copper Wire with the Solder Iron to remove the top solder and then clean the board with 99% alchohol.

Step 4. Apply more Liquid Flux and add Solder to solder points. Clean Flux off again. Repeat as necessary.

Step 5. Now you should have clean shinny solder points ready for this step. You'll want to line up the connector to the solder points. Hold the Heat Gun under the board, so that the connector falls into the solder points, giving it a solid solder. Wait 20 minutes before reassembly.

Did you mean you broke the pins of the connector only?

There are two ways but all not easy, and there is no easy way to deal with any part on the motherboard.

If it's the problem of pin, you can DIY to find and manufacture the same pin with the original one.

If not, you should replace the whole connector. At that time, you actually not only need heat gun but also the soldering iron with a kind of special glue. So it seems you'd better ask help for some professional man.
