Why do my brakes have little stopping power?
When riding my bike and applying my brakes it provides little stopping power for me.

The pads may be glazed... roughing them with sandpaper may work, or as Quandre Mebane says. they or your cables may need adjustment/replacement.

I would advise to check your brake pads first to see how much wear is on them and also check the brake line. More info can be found at: Schwinn Tourist Troubleshooting
