My grinder won’t power on while plugged in

Flipping the switch has no effect on my grinder.

Faulty Switch

The exterior plastic red switch is connected to a switch on the inside of the grinder. The switch connects to the power terminals to the power cord. If there is an issue powering the device, it may likely be the switch. To replace the switch, view our guide here.

Loose power terminals

The power connector is what connects the power cord to the device itself in which can be a reason to why power isn’t present or to the absence of power. To reconnect these, you can take a look at our guide here.

Damaged power cord

The power cord is the main source that provides the power to the grinder. A power cord that has sustained any damage can be very dangerous (handle with caution). If there is a slight rip or tear anywhere on the cord that can be one of the possible reasons for the lack of power. You can view our guide on how to replace it on here.

Worn motor brushes

Motor brushes transfer power to the motor spinning armature, if this piece is worn out it will not be able to pass over the power to the armature. Which is another reason for no power to be present. To replace this, you can view our guide here.

Spindle resolution is slow

The wheel is spinning noticeably slower than usual.

Accumulation of Debris

From use, debris may be a cause of low resolution when air particles get inside of the grinder. In order to resolve this issue, you will have to clean the moving components of the grinder and add a little lubrication oil to keep it moving.

Unsecured Pinion Gear

There is a gear that is located inside the gear of the grinder, which when loose can cause for a slow resolution or a wobbling grinder. If the pinion gear is worn or damaged, replacing it may be necessary. To take care of this issue, you can view our guide here.

Improper fitting of Motor Assembly

The motor is connected directly to the pinion gear which provides the torque to the grinding wheel. If the assembly is loose fitting, or composed of damaged parts, you may need to reassemble the motor. The guide to replace the motor assembly can be found here.

Grinder is producing smoke

There is smoke coming from the grinder, and it's not from sparks.

Build up of debris

When an excessive amount of debris build up, it can cause the grinder wheel to be clogged and produce smoke while in use. In order to resolve this issue, you will have to clean the moving components of the grinder and add a little lubrication oil to keep it moving.

Wrong disc size or type

If the disk in use is not correct in correlation to the recommended disc for the grinder this can produce smoke from the disc portion of the grinder. You must ensure that the correct disc is being used to resolve this issue.

Pinion Gear may be grinding away

The pinion gear may be out of lubrication or may be rubbing on another solid surface inside of the grinder. The pinion gear must be lubricated if not replaced. You can view our guide here.

Grinder getting unusually hot while in use

When the grinder becomes hot and can’t be handled properly.

Use of grinder for long periods of time

While the grinder is in use a certain amount heat will be produced. Although if the grinder becomes too hot that it is unpleasant to handle, you must shut off the grinder and allow it to cool off for some time. Recheck to see if it has cooled off completely before reuse.

Build up of debris

When an excessive amount of debris build up, it can cause the grinder wheel to be clogged and overheat. In order to resolve this issue, you will have to clean the moving components of the grinder and add a little lubrication oil to keep it moving.

I am being shocked when using my grinder

User is exposed to live parts.

Loose Power Terminals

The angle grinder has electrical components that connect the switch to the power cord in order to power the device. If one of these components are broken and/or come loose, it is possible to incur electric shock. Be very cautious when dealing with a possible shock hazard. View our guide hereto replace them.

Power cord is damaged or has exposed wires

The power cord is the main source that provides the power to the grinder. A power cord that has sustained any damage can be very dangerous (handle with caution). If there is a slight rip or tear anywhere on the cord that can be one of the possible reasons for electric shock. You can view our guide on how to replace it on here.

When running the motor seems off balance and sounds like it's bouncing off the housing
