Nerf N-Strike Nite Finder EX-3 Troubleshooting

No matter what you do, the laser will not turn on.

Be sure that there are batteries installed in the blaster. The batteries are located in the hand-grip and accessed by removing the phillips screw on the bottom of the grip.

Make sure that charged batteries are being used. Replace the two AA batteries with new AA batteries.

Be sure the batteries are installed the correct way. Diagrams for the battery installation can be found inside the battery compartment. If no diagram exists, the rearward most battery should be placed into the blaster positive terminal first, while the battery toward the barrel will be placed into the handle negative terminal first.

It is possible that the wires connecting the batteries to the LED laser light have become disconnected. Refer to the repair guide for dis-assembly instructions, then check to make sure that all the wires are securely connected and there are no breaks in the wires.

Check to be sure depressing the trigger makes an electric connection between the battery and the positive wire. A faulty connection may result from a missing or damaged connection point, or a worn or out of place trigger. For a damaged connection, replace the electrical connector (leaf spring switch). If the trigger is damaged, replace the trigger. If the trigger is out-of-place, simply tighten the trigger screw to ensure the trigger moves properly.

If the batteries and wire connections are in working order, it is possible that the LED laser bulb is burned out. In order to replace the LED, a new circuit board/LED assembly will have to be purchased.

"No matter what you do the Blaster will not shoot."

Check to see that the plunger groove is not worn or damaged. Be sure the plunger retainer spring is operating correctly so it can catch the plunger groove when the plunger is cocked back. Check the catch on the plunger retainer to make sure that it is not rounded or broken as well. If the trigger is jammed in the fire position, it will not allow the plunger retainer to hold the plunger rearward. Make sure your trigger is in working order.

Look inside blaster to make sure the trigger retaining screw is still secured in the gun. A missing screw will cause the trigger to remain in place and not work properly. Next, check to see that the trigger spring is present and in working order. The spring returns the trigger to its original position after firing. Check the back of the trigger to see if it is worn or broken. This part of the trigger pushes up on the plunger retainer which releases the plunger allowing the blaster to fire.

If the gun seems to be in working order but the dart is not firing, check the O-ring on the plunger. The O-ring is an air tight seal in the plunger chamber which creates the air pressure to fire the dart. If this seal is damaged or missing the dart will barely shoot or not shoot at all. If there is any damage to the O-ring it will need to be replaced. If the plunger is jamming when fired, it is most likely resulting from a broken O-ring getting caught in the plunger. Replace the O-ring if this is the case.
