The Laptop Will Not Turn On
When you press the power button, the laptop screen does not turn on.
The Laptop Is Not Charged
Plug the correct charger into the laptop and ensure it is charged to a sufficient level before trying to turn on the computer.
The Charger Does Not Work
Your charger may not be providing power to the laptop. To rule out this issue, try using a different charger to power the laptop. Make sure to use a charger meant for the Lenovo YOGA 730 or a charger with similar power output. If you need, you could try to find another charger at a store or find a friend with a similar charger.
You can also try charging another device with your charger as this will allow you to verify your charger is outputting the juice necessary.
The Battery Is Faulty
Before opening the device, ensure you verify the battery is actually faulty. This can be checked if the laptop will only power on from the wall. Once you have confirmed the battery is the culprit, follow the battery replacement guide to temporarily disconnect the battery. With the battery removed, plug the laptop in and check if it will power on. This procedure can help isolate the issue. If the computer turns on after the battery is removed, you likely need to replace the battery.
The Laptop is Plugged into a Charger, but Does Not Charge
The battery percentage does not increase, even when the laptop is plugged into a working charger.
The Charger Has a Bad Ground Connection
Use a three pronged charger or extension cord that has a good ground connector. Sometimes the charging circuitry will not function correctly if the computer does not have a ground connection. Alternatively, try plugging into a different outlet as one may be wired up incorrectly.
The Computer Was Not Shutdown Fully
In Windows 8 and later, hybrid shutdown is enabled by default. Sometimes, doing a full shutdown will solve charging issues. To disable hybrid shutdown, follow this guide.
The Battery Is Faulty
If the battery is not charging, it is likely that the battery has died. Follow this link to replace the battery. You can order a new battery online on sites like eBay.
The USB-C/Power jack is faulty
To check this is the case, firstly use a different charger if that is an option available. Alternatively (Only possible on a computer with either a power jack or multiple PD USB-C ports) try plugging a USB-C charger into a USB-C port. However, if you have verified the power port is faulty, replace it (if it's on a separate daughterboard) or if it is soldered, you might be able to find a quality port to replace otherwise you need to send it to the manufacturer for replacement.
The Battery Drains Quickly
The battery lasts only a short amount of time on a single charge.
The Computer Is Running at Higher Power Than Required
Follow this guide to adjust the performance settings on your laptop.
You could also try underclocking the laptop. Underclocking or limiting the computer’s processor speed and performance can lead to less heat produced and less energy used by the computer. Using this guide, the computer should have better battery performance; however, the computer may run slower after underclocking.
The Battery Is Failing
The most likely scenario is that the battery is defective or old. Follow this replacement guide for your laptop battery. You can order a new battery online on sites like eBay.
The Touchscreen Does Not Work
When you try to use the touchscreen, the computer does not respond to your finger.
The Computer Needs a Full Reboot
Once you have shutdown the laptop, hold the power button down for one minute. This will drain any power remaining in the computer which may help fix some touchscreen issues.
The Touchscreen Only Works in BIOS
The BIOS is the computer’s “basic input / output system.” Follow the instructions here to boot into your computer’s BIOS. If the touchscreen is working while you are in the BIOS, you may have a driver issue, so follow the next step to isolate the issue.
If the touchscreen is not working in the BIOS, you may have to replace the screen. Try the other techniques listed below first, but if the touchscreen is still not working, you can follow the display replacement guide here for instructions on how to install a new display.
The Touchscreen Only Works in Safe Mode
When the computer is started in safe mode, only the essential software and drivers are loaded. You can use this to narrow down the issue. To start Windows in safe mode, follow the instructions on the Lenovo website.
If your touchscreen works when running the computer in safe mode, the touchscreen drivers may be the issue. Proceed on to the next troubleshooting steps.
The Touchscreen Driver Is Not Working
To uninstall the touchscreen driver on Windows, open the Device Manager by pressing the Windows key + X and then clicking on “Device Manager“ in the menu that appears. For more specific instructions, see the Lenovo website. In the Device Manager, expand the Human Interface Devices section. Right click on the device called “HID Compliant Touchscreen” and select uninstall to remove the driver.
Restart the laptop and check if the touchscreen is working.
A Driver Update Is Not Working
A new driver may have broken the touchscreen input, so you can try rolling back the driver to the previous version. On Windows, open the Device Manager as shown above and locate the “HID Compliant Touchscreen“ device. Right click on the device and choose “Properties,“ then select the Driver tab and click the Roll Back Driver button.
You may need to restart your laptop after rolling back the driver.
The Touchscreen Is Not Calibrated
On Windows you can calibrate the touchscreen with the following procedure.
- Open Control Panel.
- Click on “Hardware and Sound“
- Under the Tablet PC Settings section, click on “Calibrate the screen for pen or touch input.“
- Click the Calibrate button and select touch input.
- Follow the instructions onscreen by touching the indicated areas. The first try may not work, so use different pressures and make sure your fingers are clean and dry.
- After each attempt, save the calibration data. The idea behind this method is that by giving the computer multiple samples, one of the calibrations will work.
The Display Is Faulty
If the issue cannot be fixed with software methods, you may need to replace the screen. If your device is in the warranty period, you can send it to Lenovo for repair. Contact Lenovo customer service for further information.
Otherwise, you can buy a replacement display and follow the display replacement guide here for instructions on how to install a new display.
The Keys on Keyboard are Not Working
When you press a key on the keyboard, no letters are sent. Typing on the keyboard does not work.
Software or Driver Issues
First, ensure you have the latest software updates. Then, make sure the keyboard works in safe mode. Safe Mode runs only the essential drivers in the compute, which allows you to check if the issue is occurring because of some software bug. To start Windows in Safe Mode, see the instructions on the Lenovo Website.
The Keyboard Is Disabled or Sticky Keys Are On
Follow this guide to bring up the Windows onscreen keyboard and try to type on the virtual keyboard. If you also cannot type on the screen, the keyboard may be disabled somewhere in software. Also, make sure to ensure that you don’t have sticky keys enabled (check in the Settings application).
The Keyboard Ribbon Cable Is Faulty
Loosen the middle screw (near the Windows logo) on the bottom cover of the laptop. Sometimes if the case is too tight the ribbon cable connecting the keyboard to the motherboard can be folded too sharply, causing some of the wires in the cable to lose contact and making the keyboard not work.
You could also open the back cover of the laptop and flatten out the ribbon cable to help remove any kinks or potentially replace the ribbon cable altogether. You can follow the battery replacement guide here for instructions on how to open the laptop.
The Fingerprint Scanner Does Not Work
The fingerprint scanner does not unlock the device or always fails.
The Fingerprint Driver Is Not Working
To uninstall the fingerprint driver on Windows, open the Device Manager by pressing the Windows key + X and then clicking on “Device Manager“ in the menu that appears. For more specific instructions, see the Lenovo website. In the Device Manager, expand the Biometric Device section. Right click on the fingerprint scanner device and select uninstall to remove the driver.
Restart the laptop and check if the touchscreen is working.
You can re-download the fingerprint scanner driver at this website.
The Computer Needs More Scans of Your Finger
Register a fingerprint from the same finger multiple times, possibly with different pressure applied on the sensor each time. Sometimes the computer will register the fingerprint as a new finger if you put a different amount of pressure on the sensor. Also make sure that your fingers are clean and dry. The sensor does not usually work on wet fingers.
The Fingerprint Scanner Setup Does Not Work Correctly
You cannot add or update your fingerprint in the software.
The Scanner Setup Needs Administrator Privileges on Windows
If you did not setup the fingerprint scanner when you got the laptop, you will need to configure it up now. Follow the instructions below:
- Log onto Windows with an administrator account.
- Click the Windows Button on your task bar.
- Open the Settings menu which looks like a gear-shaped icon.
- Open the “Accounts“ section in Settings.
- Click “Sign-in Options” and find the Windows Hello section.

Follow the display replacement guide linked here for instructions on opening the laptop and locating the cable.
The Display Cable Is Defective
If adjusting the display connector does not work, try replacing the display cable. Follow the display replacement guide here for instructions.
The Screen Has Dead or Stuck Pixels
A pixel is stuck displaying a single color regardless of what is onscreen. Stuck pixels are usually red, green, or blue. Dead pixels are always black or white.
The Pixel Is Overworked
Turn off the display or shutdown the computer for 24 hours. Sometimes an overworked pixel may return to normal working order if you give it some rest.
The Screen Needs to Be Exercised
Epilepsy warning: This technique requires displaying quickly flashing colors on your screen.
Use a website like JScreenFix to hit the stuck pixel with lots of flashing colors. On the JScreenFix website, scroll to the bottom of the page and click “Launch JScreenFix,“ then position the flashing box on top of the troublesome pixels. Leave your screen on with the flashing colors running for at least ten minutes.
Alternately, you can use a YouTube video that has flashing colors to achieve a similar effect.
Anecdotally, this method works about 50% of the time for stuck pixels. It is less likely to fix dead pixels.
The Display Is Faulty
If the laptop is still in the warranty period, you may be able to get the device repaired for no extra cost. Generally, laptop manufacturers will replace the screen if it has a certain number of dead/stuck pixels. Contact Lenovo customer support for more specific information.
The Screen Needs Gentle Pressure
Turn off the display and use a damp cloth to put gentle pressure on the screen without creating scratches. Push on the troublesome area with your finger or the back end of a pen.
Warning: Be very gentle when pressing on the screen. You do not want to cause more damage or crack the screen. You may cause further damage to the displat if you are not careful, so treat this method as a last ditch effort.
The Laptop Does Not Connect to Wi-Fi
The laptop cannot connect to a Wi-Fi network or the connection is unreliable/slow.
The Wi-Fi Network Has Weak Signal
Make sure your router is not the problem by connecting to a public Wi-Fi source and checking if the problem persists. Connect another computer or phone to the network to see if the network is slow or if your laptop is causing the issues.
The Wireless Card Has Power Saving Enabled
To disable wireless power saving on Windows, open the Device Manager by pressing the Windows key + X and then clicking on “Device Manager“ in the menu that appears. For more specific instructions, see the Lenovo website. In the Device Manager, expand the Network Adapters section. Right click on the device called “WLAN card“ and select properties. Under the Power Management tab uncheck the box titled “Allow the computer to turn off the device to save power.“
The Roaming Aggressiveness Is Too High
The laptop is always looking to connect to the closest Wi-Fi router, and sometimes this aggressive roaming leads to lower performance.
To lower the roaming aggressiveness on Windows, go to the Control Panel in the Start Menu. Click on “Network and Internet.” Then, click on “Network and Sharing Center.” and select Wi-Fi next to the connections option. Select “Properties” and agree to continue when prompted for permission. Select “Configure” and go to the “Advanced” tab, then select “Roaming Sensitivity Level” and change the value to “Low.”
Wireless Antennas Are Not Attached
Remove the bottom cover of the laptop and locate the wireless card. If the antennas are attached to the card, disconnect and then reconnect them to make a better fit with the card.
You can follow the wireless card replacement guide here for instructions on opening the laptop and locating the wireless card and antennas.
