If your Lenovo IdeaPad 320-15IKB laptop has distorted sound or no audio output, use this troubleshooting page to diagnose and resolve the problem.
Incorrect Settings
- High volume can cause distortion on worn or damaged speakers. Try lowering the volume to see if they sound better.
- Disable audio enhancements in Sound Settings by right-clicking the playback device and selecting Properties.
- Check that the volume is not muted or turned all the way down using the keyboard shortcut or taskbar volume control.
- Make sure the correct playback device is selected by right-clicking the volume icon and selecting "Open Sound Settings."
- Test with headphones to determine if the issue is with the speakers specifically or the audio system overall.
- Check for and install any pending Windows updates, as system updates can resolve audio conflicts.
- Restart the laptop and test again.
- If crackling persists, the speaker may be physically damaged and need replacement.
Debris Blocking Speakers
- Check that no dirt or debris is blocking the speaker grilles on the bottom of the laptop.
- If the speaker grille is dirty, rub a dry cloth over the vents to wipe away dust. You may also follow the How to Clean the Ports on Your Electronic Device guide for additional cleaning tips.
Outdated Drivers
- Update audio drivers through Device Manager to ensure you have the latest version.
Speakers are Damaged
- Visually inspect the speaker grilles for any visible tears, dents, or damage.
- If the speaker is physically damaged and none of the above steps resolve the issue, a full speaker replacement will be necessary. Follow this guide for instructions on replacing the speakers.
