Laptop doesn't turn on
The laptop isn't responding or showing any signs of powering up.
Not Enough Charge
First thing you should do is plug in your charger to your laptop and see if you can power on the laptop. If this does not work then look on further to see what other problems could be occurring within the laptop.
Faulty Battery
The light on the adapter is on and the computer works while plugged in but as soon as you unplug the laptop it instantly powers down. This most likely means you have a faulty battery and should consider replacing it using this guide.
Faulty Power Adapter
When plugged in the laptop should indicate a charging light. If plugged in and no such light occurs near the area where you plugged in the charger and you have ensured the adapter is getting power from the outlet then the adapter is faulty.
Computer keeps crashing
If your computer keeps crashing or you keep getting the blue screen when you try to turn on your computer.
Not Enough Ram
You might have a ram problem if when you first turn on your computer, it is running fine, but as you about doing different things you notice that the performance of the computer diminishes. If the laptop seems to crash or shut off randomly during intensive operation there may be a shortage of ram. If during regular operation nothing happens, but as you notice when you try to open up more applications and then the computer tends to crash and fail then a ram shortage can be the issue. Another way to tell whether you have low ram is if a blue screen with white text pops up before the computer restarts.
Hard Drive Error
Though there is a hard drive in the computer, errors in it can exist. This can happen when the user shuts down the computer by holding the power button, removing the battery without shutting it down properly, or initiating a shutdown sequence from a command window. To resolve this issue you may need to purchase a new version of windows and reinstall the software on the computer. When the CD or boot USB key is inserted and you restart you will be prompted with the opportunity to “repair your computer” then click next. On the next screen you would click “repair your computer” and let the process take place. After that process is completed your laptop should boot correctly, if this does not work then you may need to replace your hard drive using this guide.
The screen of the laptop does not open right
If your laptop isn't opening or closing correctly.
Broken Hinge
When you open the laptop screen and it is unable to support the weight of the screen and just falls a hinge can be loose or broken. If there is a crack in the hinge or looseness there are a few things to try. If the hinge that connects the screen to the body of the laptop is loose you can attempt to open the plastic protector and tighten the screw holding it together. If this fails or there is an underlying crack that caused the loose screen issue then a replacement of the hinge is the next step.
Cracked Body
Examine your laptop’s body to see if there are any cracks on the outer body that might be impacting how the laptop opens and closes. If this is the case then you will need to replace the panel of the laptop that is cracked. In minor cases you can push the crack back into place and attempt to forget about it, but if it causes other issues like closing the lid, then a replacement will need to be done.
CD Drive does not open
If you can't get the CD drive to open or its stuck
Jammed CD Drive
If you’re having trouble opening the CD drive the problem might be with the button. Try telling Windows to eject the tray. In Windows 7’s Windows Explorer, go to Computer or in Windows 8 or 10, go to File Explorer’s This PC. Right-click the optical drive and select Eject. If that doesn’t work, there may be a program holding onto what’s on the disc and therefore you should try closing a few obvious culprits. If that doesn’t do it, try closing everything and try opening it again. If this fails then shut down the PC, and this time, don’t reboot. Instead bend open a paperclip and examine your laptop closely. If you look closely, you’ll almost certainly see a small hole in the drive’s front panel. If there are two holes, one will be for plugging in headphones and the other hole is what we are looking for. With the PC still off, insert the paperclip into the hole and apply gentle pressure. The drive should pop slightly open. Gently pull the drive out. If it doesn’t open gently, the disc is probably dislodged. Carefully try to maneuver the disc so that it’s sitting where it should. If that won’t work, try to find a way to remove the disc without ruining either the disc or the drive. If you continually have to use the paperclip trick, you’ve got a bad drive. Use this guide to replace the CD drive.
Broken Motor
If the cd drive still refuses to open after trying the previous steps then the motor can be the issue. Press eject on either the side of the laptop or in the file explorer and listen closely, if you don't hear any noise then the small motor which ejects the CD is most likely burnt or broken. The next step to get the CD drive to work, would be to replace ithere.
Keyboard/Keys do not respond
The keys on your keyboard won't respond or specific keys on your keyboard aren't responding
Dead Keys
If there is a segment of dead keys on the laptop that does not respond when clicked there can be a few issues. When pressing on the key, if it feels unlike other there can be crumbs underneath. To remove the debris you should take some canned air and try to dislodge it, if that fails then removing the key and cleaning it with an alcohol swab would be the next best task before replacing the key and trying to press it again. Use this guide to replace the keys: Keyboard Keys Replacement
Specific Keys are stuck on keyboard
If there are specific keys on your keyboard that can’t be pressed then there might be something under the key holding it up physically. Or if when you press down on a key and it isn’t as responsive as it normally is, try to remove the key using this guide here and check to see if there is anything underneath it. Try wiping down the surface to clean it and then snap the key back into position.
Laptop becomes slow or hot
While you are working, your computer randomly shuts off without a notification.
Slow or Stopped fan
Computers can overheat due to excessive dust and other materials stuck in the vents or fan. To fix this, dust your computer carefully to blow the dust of the vents and fan. Another thing you should check for is to see if the computer is well ventilated. Try placing your laptop on a flat surface whether the rubber feet of the laptop can allow air to pass underneath it.
Overheating CPU/ Poor Cooling
Your computer may not have adequate contact between the heatsink and processor. This is usually caused by a lack of thermal paste or by air in between the two components. To fix this, completely clean off any old thermal paste, then apply a bead of new thermal paste directly in the center of the processor. Gently push the heatsink back in place and tighten screws to lock down the heatsink. If that doesn't work then consider replacing the fan using this guide here.
Grinding noise from the fan port
If there is a grinding noise coming from your laptop.
Faulty fan
While using the computer, a noise can arise. If you hear a noise of a grinding fashion there can only be a few items that could produce this noise. A laptop has a very small amount of moving parts, the fan is one of those few items. When using intensive tasks the fan usually spins a bit faster to increase the cooling done to the cpu. To stop this sound you need to replace the fan. Please take a look here to change the fan within the computer.
Faulty connection
A computer can become quite noisy or even hot when the fan is broken or not working at all. There can one of two issues. If there is a noise then replacing the fan would be the way to go, please use the faulty fan guide. If there is no noise at all because the fan isn't spinning then the fan can be broken or unplugged. To fix this you should power down the laptop and unplug it from any power source. Then remove the battery and start the repair. Open the laptop backing and locate the fan, there should be a wire hanging out of it. Near the fan there should be a port that is labeled “fan port” plug it back in, screw on the back plate and hope for the best. It’s time to power on the laptop and listen for the fan, if it still does not turn on then it's time to replace the fan. Use the guide above to do so.

Tried an Adobe upgrade and it shut down the laptop instantly when I hit ‘enter’. Now the laptop is a doorstop. No life whatsoever.
Is it salvageable?
