Flash Doesn't Work

The Flash will not trigger when a picture is taken.

The Flash is Down

Next to the range finder of the camera or the window that you can look through to see what you are pointed at is the switch. Slide the switch to the left and the flash should pop up into place.

The Battery Needs to be Replaced

If the flash is up and the camera is working properly, it may be time to replace the battery. The flash requires a AA battery and can be replaced at the bottom of the camera. Make sure the battery is cleaned off as that could also hinder the flash’s performance. [link here]

Film Rewind Crank is Broken

The new film is not winding.

Film is Misaligned

Open the back cover and see if the film had slipped out of the initial guide slot for the new film and see if the holes in the top and bottom of the film are lined up.

Film Rewind Crank Needs Cleaning

It could just be that the film winding crank is sticky and needs to be cleaned. Take a Q-tip or other small cleaning product and dip it in rubbing alcohol. Clean around the crank making sure to clean it when it is extended up.

Film Rewind Crank Needs Replacing

If the film rewind crank is broken or is stuck beyond what a simple cleaning can do, then it is time to take the film rewind crank out and replace the crank. To do that follow the link provided below.

The Film is Overexposed

After Film is developed it all appears black and no photos are developed.

Bad Developing Process

If you are developing the film on your own and not sending it somewhere to get developed, there is a possibility you messed up somewhere along the development process or maybe that your chemicals are contaminated.

The Rangefinder is Not Working

If your film is coming back overexposed it could be that the rangefinder is not working. Fixing the rangefinder is an easy process of replacing a battery. To replace the battery, follow the instructions in the battery guide below.

Film Door Letting in Light

If the film door is leaking light it could be that the seal needs to be replaced or that the door needs to be replaced. In order to do this, please follow the link below.

Sticky Button/Film Advance Lever

The button is stuck and does not pop back up.

Clean the Button

If the button is sticky, try to clean the button by spraying a towel with water (or a Lysol cleaning spray), and wipe until the button pops back up.

Out of Film

The film advance lever will stay stuck once the film is out. Once you open the film door and put new film the film advance lever will come unstuck.

Replace Button/Lever

Chances are that your Canon A35F is in need of a new button/lever. In order to replace the button/lever on your Canon A35F, follow the instructions in the guides linked below.

Film Door Won't Open

The back door will not open.

Door Needs to be Pried Open

In order to open the door, you will need to press down the button while prying the door open with a spudge (or a flat object). It might take a few tries before the door actually opens. It takes practice!
