Acer C720-2848 Chromebook Troubleshooting
These are some of the common issues the device may face.
Battery Will Not Charge
My computer is plugged in but the battery isn’t charging.
The Chromebook won't hold a charge when plugged in and does not turn on when unplugged.
Broken Cables
Check all power cables for wear and tear. Ensure that cables are plugged in.
Drained Battery
Plug laptop into outlet and charge it for 3-4 hours. The laptop should turn on and operate normally. If the laptop does not start up, you may need to replace the battery.
Undetectable Issue
Sometimes devices have problems that aren't quite clear as such restarting the device may fix them. To do this, a user must complete a hard reset. Begin by turning off the device. Afterwards, hold down the refresh button and then power button. Releasing the keys will restart the device.
Too Many Files
If and only if restarting does not work, perform a ‘powerwash’. This will delete extra files on the device, making it like new. Restart the device and sign in. Click on your account photo, then hit settings . At the bottom, select advanced. There should be a section called “powerwash” Select powerwash to open a box to select restart to then enter in some account information. Follow the remaining steps to restart the device. Once completed, check to see if the problem has been resolved.
Defective Charger
If the former processes does not solve the issue, there could be a problem with the wire that charges the device. Shop at a local or online retailer to find a replacement and be sure to hold onto the receipt or understand the return policy if the replacement is not the solution.
Web Pages Will Not Load and Error Messages are Given
Instead of loading web pages, the device displays the phrase “aw snap!” and you get an error message
Too Many Tabs Open
One of the easiest solutions to this problem is to simply close the browser tabs and windows. To do this, near the top of the screen you will find what appear to be multiple files with various titles which correspond to different web pages that are running at the same time. Click on the small “x” next to all of the files that are not being used. After closing the files, attempt to load a new webpage.
Undetectable Issue
As stated previously, the issue may be fixed by restarting your device. If you need a tutorial for restarting the device, see the process for restarting the device given above.
Too Many Extensions Enabled
If this still does not solve the issue, then disabling certain extensions may be required. To begin, attempt to open up a web page. With the web page open, click on the menu near the top-right corner of the screen indicated by three stacked dots. Then select “More Tools” and go to “Extensions”. Click on all boxes that say “Enabled” next to the checkmarked boxes to disable them. Attempt to load a web page again and if it is successful, enable each extension individually until you discover the extension that is causing this issue. Delete this extension by selecting the trashcan icon next to it in the same “Extensions” menu.
The Display on the Device is Not Bright Enough to Use
Image on the screen is dark.
There appears to be no backlighting on the screen or any visible image.
Faint image can be seen if I hold a flashlight up to the screen.
Flickering screen or unusual colors/lines appearing.
Brightness Setting is Set Too Low
If the screen seems to have very little back-lighting and images appear very dark, the brightness setting may have been set to the lowest possible option.
LCD Screen is Defective
If there is no visible image on the screen or there is a faint image can be seen when an external light source (like a flashlight) is held up to the screen, the most probable causes include the backlight has failed, the inverter for the display has failed, or the connection between the screen and the motherboard is damaged. Regardless of which is causing the lack of picture, the fix for all of them will be replacing the LCD screen.
Device Sporadically Freezes
Caused by software issues and/or hardware breakdowns.
Common software fixes would be installing an antivirus/anti-malware program or checking for software updates.
Device is Infected with a Virus or Malware
Several free and highly rated programs would be Avira, Avast, and Bitdefender. After installation, run a full scan of your chromebook to root out any potential threats.
Software is Not Up to Date
First click your account photo, then go to settings. Click Menu About Chrome OS and under Google Chrome OS click check for updates. If there are any the download should start automatically.
