Check to see if your laptop has Wi-Fi or airplane mode enable/disable button. Usually holding the “fn” key and pressing the f2 key, or whichever f() key your Wi-Fi/airplane button is located will enable and disable your Wi-Fi. This button sometimes gets pressed on accident without realizing it.
No connection detected
Turn your computer off and find your wireless router and restart it. Power up your laptop to see if this has solved your issue.
If this still hasn't solved the issue:
Connect your device directly into the router with an Ethernet cord to check if you get a connection. This will also confirm whether or not the router is functioning properly.
Router and laptop on different channels
Double check to see that your router is functioning properly. If your laptop works on other connections, but not your personal one then the problem is with your router. Be sure that your laptop and router are synced up to the right channel. Usually devices and routers run on a 2.4GHz radio band which contains 11 channels, 3 of which are the only ones that run without interfering with each other, Channels 1, 6, and 11. Channel 6 is usually the default channel which can make this a little tricky, because with densely populated areas like apartment complexes, there can still be some interference because of this. Be sure both your router and your laptop are synced onto the right channel by accessing your routers settings manually and following a manufacturer’s guide or contacting the manufacturer of your router to change these. It is also possible to do this on your own. Here is a quick easy to follow guide on how to do this. Router Channel Guide
Weak signal
Make sure you are close enough to your router to get a reliable signal. Depending on the quality of your router, the strength of the signal, and the size of your home you will find that not everywhere in your house has a reliable connection. This becomes even more unreliable with multiple devices using the Wi-Fi at the same time.
Wireless drivers are out of date
Reinstall your wireless drivers to be sure your wireless card is functioning properly. Go to the manufacturer’s page, in this cases Asus’s Asus X553S Wireless Drivers help page will bring you to where your drivers are located. Scroll down and choose your operating system then download the driver under LAN and follow the directions prompted onto the screen.
Laptop overheating
Beneath the laptop is abnormally hot.
Running too many applications
Laptops are limited by the hardware they contain. Some laptops are unable to handle too many applications at once due to their limited CPU power or RAM memory. Laptops can overheat if they are overloaded with too many applications.
Just simply limit the number of apps or tabs open at one time. close the unnecessary applications.
Laptop placement
Placing your laptop in the carpet, bed, or on your lap could prevent heat from escaping the laptop.
Simply move the laptop to a table or counter top would release the heat.
The fan is not running
Fans work to dissipate heat from the CPU of the laptop. Sometimes, dust can accumulate in the vents or the fans themselves and reduce the effectiveness of the cooling system.
Carefully open the laptop and open the fan encasement if necessary. Take a q-tip or use a electronics-safe dust blower to remove the dust stuck in the fan and/or vents. Only do so safely when the fan stops running.
If the fan is still not functioning properly, a replacement will be necessary.
you can find detailed directions in our replacement guide.
