Here’s the rest as it was too long!———I tested this in my late 2011 MacbookPro, moving files between a system SSD and second 5400HD in CD bay was loads faster than SSD over thunderbolt to Buffalo minisation. Incidentally i’ve not bothered fixing the drive back properly in the case as it just sits inside it, behind my display for easy access if I want to use this thunderbolt sata connection on another hard drive, very handy. Although it doesn’t work on 3.5 inch drives unfortunately. It took days to move 3 TB of files about over ethernet to my NAS and I cant afford any new computer or other gear so think my best investment now would be like a couple of 8TB 7200 rpm 2.5 inch drive one inside this thing, and the other upgrade for the one in the CD bay. Just under £300 for 2 of these in the UK.
Hi Graham, how did you get on? I’ve got one of these but the USB is shot, with a magnifying glass i can see the circuit board has been damaged behind the usb socket. Probably from plugging in/out (of other non Thunderbolt Mac) and also having to connected when closing my dj flight case with everything else crammed in! The thunderbolt connection on the board is way more solid than the USB, so what out people…Anyway, thunderbolt connection is fine and its just being used at home now in the studio with that but annoying that it does not have two thunderbolt connections as my audio interface is thunderbolt. So its just a back up drive now. As far as audio production goes, you are better off putting the fastest drives you can get actually inside your computer.
