You say you reformatted it with and then restored from your (Intel) MacBook Pro to use in your (PowerPC) PowerBook G4. Intel-based Macs can only install and use Mac OS X on a disk with the GUID Partition Scheme, while PowerPC-based Macs can only install and use Mac OS X on a disk with the Apple Partition Scheme. Your MacBook Pro would have been using the GUID Partition Scheme which PowerPC Macs can't boot Mac OS X from. Does it light up at all when you first plug it into your Clamshell (to see if it's receiving power)? I actually use a Sandisk Cruzer Micro 8 GB (SDCZ6-8192-C11). On my Clamshell, it seemed to go in, but I eventually realized that it wasn't going in all the way since the Cruzer Micro wasn't showing any signs of even doing anything at all.

Another thing to note is that similarly to the USB ports of the iMac G3, the iBook clamshell will not be able to fit any USB Flash Drives because they are too wide and the case design of both of these prevents anything that is wider than the port from fitting. I have an iBook clamshell (as well as an iMac G3) myself, and the way that I've gotten around it is by using an extremely short USB Extension Cable, plugging one end into the Mac and the other into the flash drive.
