Meu Problema
I went swimming with my iPhone. It spend a good 10 minutes in lake water before I realized it was in the cargo pocket of my shorts. The device wasn't a little bit wet, it was totally and thoroughly drenched.
Based upon the advice of friends, I put the entire phone into a bag of rice to draw out moisture. Additional Internet advice suggested leaving it in rice for 72 hours, which I did. Miraculously, the phone came back on, I received emails, texts, etc. Everything worked. However, the battery appeared to be shot -- it would not take a charge.
Minha Solução
I bought the little 5-point-star screwdriver which didn't bite that well into the screw head, but it eventually turned the screws and got me into the device. Once in, the battery swap was easy. I followed the video instructions which were perfect and exactly what I needed. The operation was pretty simple and the device is working like new. Pretty amazing. I had initially assumed the device was destroyed.
Meu Conselho
Swimming with an iPhone is inadvisable. My battery was glued in pretty thoroughly. I had to pry it up very slowly. The adhesive eventually and gradually gives way. Don't be impatient or you could cause other damage to the device.
