What are my chances of fixing this phone?

Ok, this isn't a specific repair question. Here goes. I bought a iPhone 3gs on eBay. I know it has a bad LCD. The phone is recognized by iTunes and it charges. The water damage indicators are still white. So no water damage. When I shut it off the red slider pops up and that works as well. Basically I am wondering if there is anything else I can do to figure out if I can fix this phone before I start buying parts. I have 14 days to return it and if possible I would like to figure out if I can fix it before that time runs out. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Well, it doesn't look like there are many problems with this iPhone other than the bad LCD (not too difficult to replace). Try making a few test calls and just generally test it and see if any problems arise through normal everyday use.

If you have the iPhone configuration utility on your computer, try plugging your iPhone in and reading the console log. This can sometimes tell you about errors that you wouldn't otherwise physically see on your device.

I DL'd the configuration utility and when I plugged in the phone I got "MissingPairRecordError". Google has given me no help in what that means. Anybody know?

Not sure, but I think MissingPairRecordError is related to iTunes syncing. Are you able to sync the device with iTunes? Normally, this is caused by a problem with iTunes on the computer, not with the iDevice itself, and can be fixed by closing and rebooting the computer.
