Super glue (cyanoacrylate) can be softened or broken down with one of these methods:

1. Isopropanol (IPA) or acetone

Apply sparingly with a cotton swab at the seam.

Acetone works faster but can damage plastics, so test first on an inside corner.

2. Gentle heat

Warm the grip with a hair dryer or heat gun at low setting (~60–70 °C).

Heat weakens cyanoacrylate bonds and makes it more brittle.

3. Mechanical separation

Insert a thin plastic spudger or guitar pick at the seam and twist gently.

Combine with solvent or heat for better results.

⚠️ Risks:

Acetone can melt ABS plastic (controller shell). Use with extreme caution.

Too much heat can warp the controller housing.

For safety, avoid metal tools that may slip and damage internals.

If the bond is too strong, safest option is to sacrifice the glued grip shell and replace it with a new part.

Hi!

Can you share some pictures regarding the grip?

At the moment I would say to use heat, but be very carefull.

This is probably the best way to get it off. Did you tried to repair it before?

Please let us know how it goes!

To clarify, it wasn't from a repair. I recently did a shell swap and one of the screw threads was broken so I super glued the left handle but I forgot to make sure if it works first.

Ahh okay that explains the glue! Then it's glued for sure. Yes, the best way is to use heat for now and see how that goes! Please keep us posted :)!

@dan0 So the heat method isn’t really working for me and I got a replacement shell. Is there a safe way I can break apart the old grip?

por

Alright! Then that is probably the best option. There are no electronics or important parts in the grips, so it's fine if you break them! Please be carefull all the time and please let us know how it goes!

@dan0 How should I do it?
