Possible to re-fit battery cable locking clip?

Hi, I have a MacBook Pro 2016 Touch Bar (A1706) which had a faulty screen. I changed the entire display but the laptop was not turning on or responding at all. Upon further inspection I noticed that the battery connector did not have the locking tab to secure the ribbon cable - it must have fallen out as I found it in the chassis.

Is the locking tab required? Would this prevent the laptop from turning on? I tried using the power adapter and the laptop still did not turn on. Should it not at least turn on if the power adapter is connected?

As I have the clip, is it possible to somehow fix it back to the connector or is it not repairable once it pops off?

Please see the photo to get a better idea of the locking tab.

The ribbon cable needs the compression of this latch to create the electrical connections. So yes it’s needed.

It can be tricky snapping it back in as you do need to warp it slightly.

@chuggy7 I’ve added end the needed part to get the latch from it below.

Could the warping be done by simply squeezing it into the actual connector until it clips in?

@chuggy7 Yes, You have to kinda bend it into place, tricky, and DO NOT break it! Otherwise it's all over.....

@livfe @danj Tried putting it in and it broke! 🤦🏻‍♂️ could I put a thin strip of plastic or something underneath the cable and slide them both into the connector to create a tight fit?

por

@chuggy7 - You’ll need to get a connector and transfer the latch over, otherwise you’ll need to replace the connector.
