What’s wrong with my 3DS XL?

My 3DS XL charges just fine but when I open it the screen turns black. If open the 3DS XL just a bit, it turns on, but if I open it all the way it turns off.

There is likely a poor connection with the top screen’s ribbon cables. I recommend opening the console, inspecting the ribbon cable contacts, and carefully reseating them.
