Screen shows streaks, distorted and sometimes shaky display

I am newbie who has opened other things but a laptop. The screen shows one persistent mark which seems like a hairline crack from the inside of the display, a slightly curved one from the top under the camera toward the right.

There is absolutely no crack on the outside of the screen. There are a few long vertical lines displayed under this presumed crack.

The images were quite shaky at some point making it hard to see anything (see the repeating Apple logos) or click on anything. Sometimes it looks like an old 1950s TV (see one of the images) with a black vignette.

I took it to a local repair shop that quoted CAD$800 (or more) for an aftermarket screen since it's hard to find. Can this be a T-CON board issue or the whole screen need a replacement? The IFIXIT display assembly seems unavailable though I have added my email to get a notification. The price seems like a lot for a 2019 laptop but I want to use it longer at the same time. Quite a dillemma!

It could be a compound issue, but this will almost certainly require a display replacement. I'll try to explain here as succinctly as possible but my brain is trying to word vomit so you might have to bear with me.

Cracks in displays can cause all kinds of weird behavior and the last picture is not something I usually see as part of a display issue, but it's not unheard of. The vertical lines though surrounding the crack are textbook for LCD panel damage.

It could be related to a TCON problem, but replacing the TCON board alone is not a repair I would recommend since it's not really modular. It's effectively built into the display assembly and the cables are soldered to the TCON board. So there are some delicate procedures needed to replace it.

Unfortunately displays for this model are pricey. Most Apple displays are. But this one specifically. I would also be mindful of the Lid Angle sensor on this model since it's easy to tear during repair and is a bit inconvenient to replace. It will need to be calibrated to work properly and Apple is effectively the only people who can calibrate. There is a third party tool now available to do that, but it is a very recent development.

Thank you for your quick response. This is more than what I expected and I really appreciate it. I did check with Apple's authorised service centre but the charges are extremely high. I was going to go with a local repair shop that might charge less but purchasing a (mostly used) monitor makes more sense. I wasn't ready to spend so much. What's weird is the crack is from the inside and I don't know how it happened. Anyway, thanks again.
