Laptop does not charge, clicking noise when the charger is on

Hello,

This has been happening for some time now: it started with "sometimes my laptop does not charges its battery and I hear a clicking noise" and now it simply does not charge and I can't figure out what is the problem.

I have opened the laptop to try and understand where the clicking noise is coming from, but couldn't find the origin.

Have anyone experienced something like this before?

Thank you.

Perhaps the contacts in the plug aren't making contact securely and are repeatedly closing and opening the circuit through a low surface area gateway, leading to audible clicking as a result of sparking. Over time the charging contacts may have become increasingly worn to the point they do not make any connection at all, stopping the clicking and the charging.

Usually I'd expect more current/voltage to hear this phenomenon, but it doesn't seem terribly unfeasible that it would happen with a high voltage laptop charger. I might be extrapolating too much.

Yeah, I did think that could be the case (the contacts in the plug).

But I've tried using different 2 different chargers in both USB-C ports the computer has - it happens on both chargers and both ports.

Something tells me it is circuitry-related: there is a spot in the board that if I slightly press and hold with my finger, the laptop charges with no interruptions. If I take me finger off of it, it will go back to the same "charging/non charging" loop.

I should add that, when it is doing the clicking noise, the charging orange LED is also blinking randomly.

Thank you!

If pressing down on the surface of the laptop makes it charge, then it 100% has to be something loose within your circuitry that shouldn't be

Then maybe the loose contact is not in the plug itself, but in the battery management system. I'd spend some time poking around with any circuitry/wires that connect to the battery. Go around testing with a multimeter, and chances are you can fix whatever is wrong with a soldering iron or some tape if you are in a pinch.

If you get it to work, then mark the issue as solved.

Thank you! I will update this as soon as I have something new!

I have the exact same issue with my t495. Just pressed down near the charging port with my finger and the crackling noise stopped and now the laptop is charging as normal. You find out where the issue is?

Hey there! No luck so far. I've opened the laptop, but couldn't see anything obvious. I am going to have someone look at it and see if there is anything that can be done. I'll let you know the results (might take 2~4 weeks) and maybe it is the same issue. Cheers!
