Is there a way to reset iPhone SE home button

So I recently changed my screen on my iPhone SE and I forgot to change the home button, so when I installed it a message popped up and said Touch ID was unavailable. I then changed the home button to its original one but I still have Touch ID unavailable. is there a way to fix this or did I just mess it up permanently?

In theory you should be able to get Touch ID back with the original home button. Start out by trying a force restart and see if that brings it back.

If that doesn't do the trick, I'd suggest backing up the phone and doing a DFU update; that's the most complete update possible and will put your phone back to its original factory settings.

If that still doesn't work I'm out of ideas, but hopefully if it comes to that there are lots of very smart people on here who will have more suggestions.

hello I've tried both methods and both did not work sadly but I hope we all find the answer soon I don't want to go to apple and pay them $400 just to fix my home button. I really appreciate it as I now know this for future reference.

@lilgzuez It's my understanding that the only way to get the home button replaced and keep Touch ID working is to pay Apple to do a screen replacement. Apple's replacement screens come with a home button and the last step of the repair is to run their "calibration software" that will pair the home button to the logic board and copy the True Tone data.

Unfortunately, your phone doesn't qualify for the self service repair program, so that isn't an option for you. So basically it'll cost you the price of a screen replacement to get your home button fixed if for some reason you can't get the old one working again.
