I used this battery rather recently and it seemed to work fine, but I just want to be sure that the (white?) dot and the slightly odd pattern in the middle left cell are anything to be concerned about.

I always err on the side of caution with these batteries. If anything looks off, it's better to just replace - a new battery isn't cheap but fire damage from a laptop catching on fire can be very expensive and dangerous.
