Why is only my macro camera working?

I dropped my iPhone which caused the macro camera glass to have a giant crack (I've ordered a third party camera glass)

Now when taking photos only macro and ultra wide works, telephoto lens doesn't work but it switches to macro one instead

Is it some software issue or I need to replace the camera assembly?

Mayukh Barua, you can indeed go to Apple, but that of course defeats the whole purpose of coming here to iFixit where the whole point is to empower you to be able to repair your own devices.

That being said, yes, at this point it does sound as though the camera module has taken some damage and is no longer functional. Apple has been getting worse and worse with regard to their parts pairing policy so I wanted to do as much homework as possible before recommending you replace the rear camera assembly.

From everything I can find, there are no warnings that if you replace your rear camera it will no longer function or will lose functionality. It does appear, from iFixit's article on the iPhone 14 and Apple's continuing digital repair lockdown, that you'll get a warning if you replace it

iPhone 14 Continues Apple’s Repair Lockdown

With regard to rear camera replacement, here's what it has to say.

So it looks like you can replace the cameras and have everything work, but you'll get a pop-up warning when you reboot the phone. This will happen whether or not you use genuine Apple parts. When you replace the screen, that warning only comes up for about two weeks, and from then on you only see it in your settings, where it will show a badge on the settings icon permanently, but I don't know if the same holds true for the camera replacement.

Should you decide you can live with that, here's the iFixit guide showing you how to do that replacement yourself.

Unfortunately, as of this writing the iFixit Store is out of stock on the rear camera assembly, but it seems to be readily available at a number of other sites. I usually start with Amazon, eBay and AliExpress, but there are many other places you can buy it from as well. Here's an example from AliExpress that came up.

Good luck; I'd love to hear what you decide and how it all turns out!

There could be various reasons for this issue with your iPhone 14 Pro Max's camera. It might be a hardware problem, a software glitch, or a settings issue. Try restarting your phone, checking for software updates, and reviewing your camera settings. If the problem persists, it's recommended to contact Apple support or visit an Apple Store for assistance.

@Mayukh Barua If restarting and updating your iPhone 14 Pro Max didn't resolve the issue with your macro camera, it's possible that there might be a hardware problem. I recommend reaching out to Apple Support or visiting an Apple Store for further assistance. They can help diagnose the problem and guide you through the appropriate steps to get your macro camera working again.
