SSD will not fully erase and will not re-install OS

My macbook was getting slow and the SSD was full of old junk I didn't want so
I decided to erase it and re-install the OS.

It says a portion of the dive is corrupted and the re-install is failing. Disk Utility and First Aid are not helping.

I'm prepared to replace the SSD, but since the repair guide recommends installing the OS first for the firmware update I'm not sure if it will work since I currently have no OS installed.

If anyone knows the answer please help.

Thanks

In Disk Utility, have you tried erasing the highest level container, instead of just the "Macintosh HD" volume? If you go to View -> Show All Devices and then erase and format from the highest level container of the main boot volume, that might work. If that doesn't work, then the drive probably has a mechanical issue. Do you know what OS you had installed on the drive before you attempted to erase it? Most of the OWC drives require High Sierra or later that have been installed on an OEM drive already in the system before they'll work. Good luck!

Tried that without any success.

Starting up in recovery mode and opening disk utility I no longer see Mac HD, only Apple SSD under "internal" and OS X Base System under Apple disk image

Attempting to reinstall Mac Os Sierra I get an error message called "no bag entry".

I have no idea what to do.

Thanks!

It's been a week or so since I temporarily gave up in frustration so I don't remember if I erased the top level container or not, but I will try that as soon as I have time later today.

My macbook had been updated fairly regularly and I believe it had Montery OS installed before I erased it.

So I guess the worst case scenario is I upgrade from the 500gb SSD, which would be nice since I use it for music production so it gets filled up quickly.
