Ventura is exasperating just trying to open the internal hard drive

Getting into the internal hard drive used to be so easy, just do it in the preferences, but I have been looking for thirty minutes on how to do it using Ventura and have not been able to find a decent do-able answer. Can anyone like @danj tell me how to do it?

I have a 2017 MBP Touch Bar, with bad keyboard, customer wants a new keyboard (there is no guide), I'll have to replace the battery. I advised my customer that this was no longer cover by Apple's Keyboard replacement program (4 years) and it was not cost effective but he want's it anyway. Parts (uppercase & battery)from IFixit are due in today.

@mayer

I have a video here for Monterey

Apology’s in advance if it’s different on Ventura…doesn’t seem to be much info on Ventura specifically

When it shows you how to do external drives it says to tick the box with external drives beside it

In your case I would assume that you click the one that says hard drives beside it :-)

Apologies in advance if it isn’t much use

i hope I got the correct one @mayor What is the state of the drive? Have you tried to reformat it?

As you are trying to gain access their files did they disable the TouchID and give you the systems password?

The last bugaboo is if the system was disabled via iCloud. If it was you’ll never gain access to the files until the user alters the systems status within iCloud.

All of these conditions are present from Mojave forward.

Sorry to say I’m still a few versions back with my hardware. So I can’t tell you if Ventura is different from the older releases

This is what I would do…

To see drives go to Finder and within Finder menu jump to Preferences > General and tick on what you want. You can also alter the Side Bar options going into Side Bar.

To get to Terminal the easiest way is from the Finder menus > Go and then jump down to Applications. With the applications window open locate the Utilities folder, the Terminal App should be there.

To turn off AutoBoot I follow the steps outlined here MacBook Pro 13" Touch Bar 2017 Battery Replacement

I hope that helps you Mayor

@danj The MBP was not locked up. I could get into it using an external keyboard. Never figured out how to get the internal drive to appear on the desktop. Went ahead and removed the bottom cover. Disconnected the battery. Went through steps 1-66 of the battery guide. The new upper case and new battery came in. Now looking for a guide to remove and replace all the other stuff like the speakers, fans, display and all the connectors surrounding the logic board to pull then replace in the new upper case. By the way my namer is spelled Mayer not Mayor.

Sorry on the misspell it snagged someone else’s ID.

As far as the keyboard, it’s really no different than the older Retinas riveted in! I did one and gave up, ended up just replacing the full uppercase assembly. It’s been awhile I just don’t remember what needed to be transferred.
