MacBook A2141 powers on but no display

Hi there,

I have a Macbook pro 2019 A2141 and the display is not working. Just totally black.

It is working though with an external monitor.

There was a tiny bit of liquid damage in the connector of the lcd connector with the lvds cable.

The LVDS cable is replaced, the T CON board has also been replaced. But nothing seems to work.

Does anyone know what else I can try besides replacing the whole display (if the problem isn’t on the logic board)?

And how can I test that the problem isn’t on the logic board itself?

No I don’t see anything at all..when I start the MacBook on an external screen and go to settings and displays, it doesn’t show the screen at all. Thats why I thought to replace the T-Con board and the LVDS cable.

But now I don’t know if the fault is on the logic board or the display itself…

@dustin_mijnders - what do you mean by T-CON board? That is not really a replaceable part.

At this point I would use a fresh known good display assembly to see if you have a deeper problem within the display.

From your symptoms I’m very confident the issue is within the display and/or it’s connection to the logic board.

@danj I brought the old display to an repairman who is the best here at nano and microsoldering. He had a spare T CON board from an original display laying around, so he desolderd mine and soldered the other one back on. (As I trust his words)

Alright, I don’t want to spend all that money right away without knowing for sure that will help. So I was hoping there was a method to diagnose the issue without buying a new screen..

Really appreciate the help!

@dustin_mijnders - You’ve done a good job diagnosing down the issue!

The fact the display is not showing within the Display listing tells us the electrical pathway and/or the displays logic is bad.

Depending where you order it they may take returns.
