Ipad 2 does not recognize sound

When im shooting a video os trying to call someone of skype, the ipad will not recognize sound, on the video, there is no sound, and on skype, the other person cannot hear me. How can i fix this?

Sounds like the mic may have failed. If its still under warranty get Apple to look at it.
