IP68,9 - can repairs be made without losing this property?

With 'rugged' smartphones like from Oukitel, Blackview, Ulefone, Cat, etc., can it be expected that internal damage like to speakers or microphones be repaired and put back together without losing the IP68+ rating? Or are they generally sealed tight so that opening them is not an option in the first place?

Hi I've replaced several screens,2x loudspeaker and a couple of batteries on my poor bv9800 pro and the seal around the back seems pretty good and I've never had a problem with it being waterproof after but just remember to stick the loudspeaker in with a bit of sealant as it doesn't come with the seal for it (AliExpress parts) when replacing the screen I buy one with the chassis and swap the internals over its easier in the long run and you get all new buttons, mic, fingerprint sensor and earpiece.

[object Object], I’ve never worked on any of those phones personally, but I saw a video of a guy testing the “ruggedness” of one of the CATs. Turned out (after rigorous testing) that the IP68 part was… questionable, to say the least. Water had easily gotten in (the phone was brand new, taken straight from the box, to the test) even after only a few minutes (but very thorough) exposure.

I have torn apart the 9800 and the 8800 series phones. I am a long time Black view fan. LOVE these phones but I still seem to be able to bust them. In my very limited experience, having owned 7 of these phones now, I see that Black view changed how they sealed the cases. In the newer versions, there is a in seal/gasket around the back case which makes taking the back cover off ever so convenient and yes, the water resistance remains intact. The older models not so much. Visually, if you see screws on the back plate, it is likely the newer design and can be easily put back together. But if u have to pull the rubber antiskid off the back to get to the screws, it's definitely not going to reseal with any effectiveness. It's rather painful to get into from the getgo. I now see that this is an older post but figured I'd offer some amateur experience feedback. Btw. I've tested these out of the box in a pool at 5 feet and it did perfect. Just make sure the cover port on the charger is fully closed.

@garymstephens absolutley, for whatever reason rugged phone 'makers' can't be bothered to internally seal the type-c, so you're stuck with this finicky rubber block that you might also have to hold out of the way to plug the charger in, I'm 'using' a WP100, and at some point I'm going to open it up to see if I can seal it myself, then cut out that stupid recess since oukitel saw fit to not only NOT internally IP68 a $900 phone but recess the type-c port that already in a recess, just enough that you can only plug THEIR OWN charger into it. Also their marketing is decidedly chinese. Projector? 'sharp resolution' spec sheet says 854x480, not to mention the +32GB of ram that's actually just storage you're about to obliterate
