Display going mad after CPU and RAM upgrade?!

Hello;

I have upgraded my kids' iMac Intel 21.5" EMC 2545's with your guide to i7-3770s and maxed out the ram to 16gigs.

Other than chipping the glass on one of the iMac while removing the dislay, yes it was the first attempt :/, all went smooth until I tried to turn them back on after reassambly.

I'm getting half displays on both machines as attached.

I've tried resetting the rams and so on but out of ideas.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks.

Update (11/28/2022)

Hey @danj;

I've received the replacement LVDS cable, swapped it, no change on image so its not the cable issue.

I've received the HDMI adapter and connected an external display and all is working well as far as I can tell... Even onboard display is showing connected and working, see image, does this mean that I damaged the screen not the logic board connector and a screen replacement will fix my problem?

Thanks for your assist with this, much appreciated.

Ouch! His looks like the display assembly was damaged in its removal. Don’t feel bad I messed up a few times before we collectively knew how to do it and had access to the magic pizza cutter tool.

For now you’ll need to connect an external display to see how things look there. Or, if you have a second Mac and can connect it either via a peer connection accessing the systems Remote Desktop or drive via Target Disk so you can focus in on what is working still.

Thank you for your input. If only one of the machines had this problem I was going to say to myself you messed up, but since both of them are doing the exact same thing I was wondering if it could be anything else :) I've inspected both of the displays and cant see anything wrong but than again its very possible.

My initial thought was maybe I damaged the LVDS cable ordered a pair from eBay and also ordered a Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter to connect a monitor but these did not arrive yet.

@tabago - Double ouch!!

The only other thing is a a damaged logic board connector and/or you plugged in the display cable backwards.

@tabago - Yep as I had feared the display and/or the logic board connection is damaged. Time for a new display and hope that is all it was. Replacing the connector is not easy, I would find someone with the deeper skills needed here as it’s very easy to make a bad situation worse! The desoldering of the connector can lift the copper pads if not fully desoldered befor lifting the connector off.
