Possibly broken W key?

I few hours ago I was using my laptop and all of a sudden in an instant the w key just stopped working as I was using it. I couldn't get it to work at all, no matter how hard I pressed the keys or in which area of the w key I applied the most pressure. Then it switched on me, and although I still couldn't press the w key, now it was constantly being held down without any input at all. As if an invisible force, which I am assuming is dust, is constantly pressing the key for me.

I decided to pop the key off, which I had never attempted before, and tried to clean out any hair/dust/matter that was lodged in it. I wasn't very successful in doing so and when I was pressing the plastic protusion to see if direct contact would be more effective, I pushed the plastic 'thing' right out of place and it popped off. It didn't fix anything and I don't know if it was glued in place or not but I can't get it to stick the same was it was before I pressed it.

Obviously, I should have just left it and brought it into a shop but now I am wondering if I have permanently ruined my w key and my if my whole keyboard will need to be replaced. I have also noticed my e and d keys are a little faulty too and sometimes will not work when I press them in certain spots.

By the way, every couple seconds my keyboard randomly spams the w key so I keep having to delete then continue typing, and since I can't press the w key, whenever I need to use the letter w I have to wait for a burst of wwwww's and delete the excess.

Thank for any feedback.

Carefully put the key cap back on and get your system to Apple to get your keyboard fixed under the extended warranty this system has for the troublesome butterfly keyboards.

I have had this keyboard for 3 years though and just it's only just now becoming a problem, if it was faulty wouldn't it have always been an issue? Also, do you know how long it would be in repair for? I need it for school. Nevertheless, I will give it a shot anyways.

@Chicken Nuggies - Failure issues are a bit more complex! Here the design over time fails as grit has a chance to work its way under the keycap. Apple tried to improve the design four times! Sadly, it only took a bit longer for it to fail.
