You can’t, it’s spot welded to the chassis.

Well, technically a hammer and chisel would probably do the job...

A better question would be, why do you want to remove it?

If you're looking to remove the rear camera bezel for glass replacement, you've got three choices.

1) Buy replacement glass with an oversize hole that will fit over the bezel. Waterproofing is lost in that case, but I see no reason it couldn't be filled with silicone sealant to help mitigate that.

2) Chisel off the bezel. Of course, then you have to figure out how to secure it back in place since most of us don't have the micro-spot-welding equipment Apple uses. You'd probably have to make do with some sort of adhesive.

3) Replace the entire rear frame. A LOT of work to transfer *everything* from the old phone to the replacement housing.

No truly good choice here, unfortunately.

Well I got this replacement glass for the camera that I thought would be easy to inserts back in but apparently it goes under that steel case. I’ll see if I can get you an image to show you what I have.

post updated with camera cover so you can see more in detail

See the loop of tiny brown dots around the camera frame? Those are the weld spots, drill them out.

drill? don’t you mean weld them out?

por

@Karl Sewon I mean drill, like how you drill out car body panel weld spots.

por

ok, then I would need some micro drills, would it not be easier to use some small weld on the holes and put upward pressure on the housing it at the same time, pull it up while I put heat on the holes?

por

@Karl Sewon It's porper steel on steel weld, I don't recommend heating it to remove, way too much heat.

Hi Karl,

Well, I already listed your options in a comment on @strongbow's answer, so I won't repeat them here.

The piece you added pictures of is the camera bezel that mounts on the rear side of the phone, and helps retain the glass. Without the ability to solder it back on as Apple does, you're going to have to settle for glue; Solder might be an option if it wasn't for the fact that it has to be welded on after the glass has been glued down, so it would only be possible from the inside, which I wouldn't attempt, personally.

If it was me, I'd bite the bullet and just reorder a rear glass with an oversize hole. If you're really intent on using the glass you have, here's a tip from another answer about the same issue from someone who was able to use a Dremel to get the old one off.

For anyone trying to remove camera bump without back glass. The way I do it is with a diamond point bit in my dremel. Open phone, remove screen assem, remove camera module, and the very slowly and carefully end mill out the welds with the diamond point bit in my dremel at about 20-25k rpm seems to work best. Go in a clockwise direction so it jumps and grabs little to not at all. Once you get through the bumps and chassis is smooth where they were, place phone back side down on a stack of towels and position a small punch towards top or bottom of camera cover. One maybe two decent raps and it pops free with ease. 1/5 will need some minor smoothing of chassis after but most break clean straight and smooth. Hope this helps some. Dremels are $20 at wally worlds and no shipping ?

thanks, the rear glass option seams like a better choice, think they are only 10-15 bucks
