Why does my screen recognize my fingers but not my spen?

In short: Bought a used Tab S6 and the screen recognize my fingers flawlessly, but it won't recognize my Spen

Things I've tried already:

  • Going into settings and changing stuff, did nothing
  • Factory reset, nothing
  • Try another spen, nothing
  • Try the spen on other Samsung devices, works like a charm with both writing and button usage

Returning the tablet is not an option so I would like to know if I can fix this or just accept that it will not work with the spen

It is to note that the screen is kinda badly glued into the device so maybe they changed the screen and didn't connect the ribbons correctly? Or the screen they installed just doesn't work with the spen?

The Samsung devices that support the S Pen have two separate digitizers, one for fingers and the other for the S Pen. So it's entirely possible for one of them to fail while the other continues to work, as in your case. There's another thread on a Galaxy Note 10 full of people who are having the same problem as you, along with several suggestions and examples of things they've tried that have fixed their problem. Take a look and see if anything there helps.

Why does my tablet respond to S-Pen but not my fingers? - Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 - iFixit

Personally, given the condition of the screen, I'd be tempted to open it up and check the connectors going from the tablet to the display. Sounds like you've either got a bad connection or possibly a bad (or damaged) display.

Searching through that post I reached a comment which suggested using the menu from *#2663#, I dialed those numbers and all the Wacom text says as following:

FW Version of WACOM IC: Not Supported

FW Version in Kernel Image: Not Supported

Tuning Version of WACOM IC: Not Supported

I believe this is at fault from being unable to use the Pen? There's two buttons down that text, only one is clickable, "Wacom FW Update (Kernel Binary)" when pressed says it's updating and must not be turned off, but it remained in that state for over an hour with nothing happening, the device turned off and nothing changed

Any suggestion?

Hello, my Samsung Galaxy tab s8+ encountered the same issue as you. When I entered *#2663#, the following situation occurred:

FW Version of WACOM IC: Not Supported

FW Version in Kernel Image: Not Supported

Tuning Version of WACOM IC: Not Supported

And then my spen couldn't connect to the tablet either,Have you resolved the issue with your tablet now? If so, could you please provide me with some help? Thank you very much!

@shelby21054 sorry, I couldn't get it fixed, I actually ended up giving up on it and selling it.

Was your Tab second hand as well? Now that I reflect on it, I'm convinced it was probably a repaired Tab S6 with an aftermarket screen which didn't have spen support

por

@tr6 Yes, my tablet is second hand too. I just bought it and haven't used it for long. It makes me feel sad to sell it now.

Hello, my friend, did you have these problems just after you bought your tab S6 tablet computer?

I know this is a old question but the tab s5e screen actually fits the tab s6 screen perfectly it just doesn’t have a cut out for the fingerprint scanner and it doesn’t have the matt at the back of the screen for the spen so if the fingerprint reader doesn’t pick up fingerprints at all then it’s definitely got a tab s5e screen on it. It could of corse be a genuine s6 screen with a loose connection but I have never found a way to get round the fingerprint part not registering fingerprints so definitely try and use the fingerprints and if it doesn’t work then it’s got the wrong screen and will never work. Hope that helps :)

Update (11/09/23)

It’s a hardware problem either loose ribbon cable or the Wacom chip has gone bad (rare)
