Camera comes on and says card is protected on display screen
Display says card is protected and can not take pics. How do I fix the card, so i can take pics and keep the SD card in the camera.

On the side of a SD card there is little groove/notch with a small plastic slider in it. That slider needs to be in the closest position it can be in the direction of the reader pins. Here is a video sowing you how to unlock the SD card. Here is a video showing you how to fix this problem if the little slider is broke or missing.

But there are also instances where the slide switch will not correct the problem. One example is trying to use a 4GB or higher SDHC card with an older camera made before SDHC format came out. There are also other common causes if the above didn't help, with troubleshooting steps for this problem listed here.

I purchased a new card the same make and size recommended in the camera manual Sandisc SDHC 16GB. checked that the lock was off and still got the message protected card when switching the camera on.
With no card in all the camera functions work correctly
Camera Finepix S8200. The card works in everything else.
Any ideas please?

some times you can make sure the switch is closes to the brass pins and put a piece of scotch tape over the switch and the little cutout on the opposite side. make sure not to cover the shiny pins. this has worked on some cases. the card readers and adapters are not advanced enough for a SDHC card and newer windows operating systems won`t work on some of the newer cards because it do not support encryption.
