Screen issue after battery replacement

Recently replaced battery for my surface pro 2017 (5th gen, 1796).

After battery replacement, device turned on and booted to desktop with no issues. Was able to access some stored files, etc. Device was shut down after that.

The next time I tried to power it on, the screen turns on for 1s, showing the 4-squares windows logo, and then blacks out completely, never coming back on again.

Device is still usable when connected to an external monitor. Everything else works, including touch, except the display.

I've tried replacement parts (screen, digitizer board, the 2 flex cables connected to the display) and it's always the same problem (i.e. comes on for 1s and blacks out).

Anyone else encountering this and/or have ideas?
