a. a really battered iPhone with broken screen but big memory and decent battery.
b. A second one with nice screen and case but less memory and poor battery.
both iPhone SE 2016
which's bits of a should I transfer into the case of b??? And am I thinking the right way here??!! Thank you

I would transfer the battery and logic board of iPhone 1 into iPhone 2.

Forgive my ignorance but is the logic board the actual phone in terms of the brains???
@curlyboy99 The logic board is the black PCB on the right side of your phone. It contains the processor and other components. There is a guide at iPhone SE Logic Board Replacement. Note that you have to have a standoff driver to remove the motherboard.
