PS4 Slim: Optical drive powers the console but disk is not inserted

Hello,

Like many people my PS4 slim optical drive is faulty, preventing me from installing updates (I don’t use the drive mostly, and got the su-42118-6 error message when trying to update).

When the console is off, beginning to insert a disk will power the console, but the rollers are not spinning so the disk is not “eaten” by the optical drive.

I have watched several videos and tried to fix the problem by myself but it still not working. Here is what I have done so far:

  1. Inspection of the drive, everything looks in place but I might be wrong.
  2. Tested the fuses on the motherboard, replaced the F6202 that was faulty. Connectivity is back but the problem is still here :(

I’m wondering if it’s worth it to try replace the whole optical drive, as it did not fix this issue for many folks. I’m also wondering if the fact that the console powers up by inserting a disk is enough to tell that the connectivity between the optical drive and the motherboard is fine or not.

Another important point is the optical drive stopped working when I put my console in vertical position for the first time, but I can’t find any moving part every time I disassemble it :-/

So I’m hesitating between a connectivity and a physical issue on this, and I’m running out of ideas. I anyone could give me a suggestion it would be great :)

Thanks in advance :)
