Can anyone tell me how to replace board mounted USB3 B socket?

My Fujitsu IX500 scanner was working great, but the USB3 B female socket had broken off leaving 4 bare wires without that center post. I have the logic board removed, and before diving into a soldering job, I am hoping for some tips replacing this 9-pin + 2 post board-mounted port. Since a replacement scanner is $500, I am willing pay a professional to do the repair if advised.

Charles, I have the same problem - how did you resolve yours ? I am thinking of having a go at replacing it myself.

Can anyone lend the exact part number from digikey.com? I’ve browsed and appears to be a couple potentials listed under USB 3.0 Connectors.

I’ve had my Scansnap for 5 or 6 years and the internal, port prongs got smashed inward because someone plugged the wrong size cable into it. Any assistance with the matter would be appreciated.

What I believe it may be: USB-B (USB TYPE-B) USB 3.2 Gen 1 (USB 3.1 Gen 1, Superspeed (USB 3.0)) Receptacle Connector 9 Position Through Hole, Right Angle

Digi-Key Part Number: 123-A-USB3B-ND

Lead time states 21 weeks - hopefully that’s incorrect.

A decent soldering station and good materials would cost you more than the scanner, let alone the difficulty of replacing a Usb port. Do yourself a favour and find a Pro who can guarantee the job will be done properly, such repair isn’t exactly an easy one.

If you can source the part or if it’s a standard usb 3 printer port, then i’d say the job can be diy’d with good soldering skills for under $50, using low melt solder. Idea is same with all through-hole components, mix the low melt solder into joints and pull connector out. Hot air station helps but is optional. All standard ports i’ve seen are 5-2-2 pin layout with 2 support legs, all fairly close together.

Thank you Steven, I think I will try it. I bought the scanner from an Ebay seller who did not realise it had a fault, and refunded me the major part of my purchase price, so it only stands me in for a few bucks. Worth a go. I shall let you know how I get on.

Nice David, and thanks to the OP Charles, we know the part is a standard port available at digikey and most likely mouser also. Good luck with the repair.

Steven,

I bought the part from digikey.com and had a local Berkeley shop (iresurrectrepairs.com) do that micro-soldering for me.

They did a beautiful job and the scanner works like new for under $100.

Good luck

Great to hear you got it working again, and thanks for letting us know about the part used.

I have the same problem and found the Digi-Key Part Number: 123-A-USB3B-ND requires a minimum order of more than 5,000 pieces. Is there an alternative source?
