So I undertook a full rebuild into a new body / housing and a new screen. The Touch ID / home button flex was damaged on removal. Touch ID still worked but no home button. I replaced it with a basic version. This appeared to work OK. I had to take the screen off again to fit another lightening port due to a muffled microphone. Sadly I cracked my new screen. Pleased with how my phone was performing I fitted a new screen. So now the home button doesn’t work??? I refitted the old screen to rule out a fault with the new screen. It wouldn’t work with the original either now. Even the Touch ID with the original button now wouldn’t work. Tried a full reset and checking connectors etc etc. Tried the front camera change. I have ran out of ideas. Could I have physically damaged the logic board.

Are you able to take some photos of the connectors on the board and the home button? Have you tried cleaning out the connectors with alcohol?

Hi Liam, two pictures uploaded. Both screen and home button are virtually new. To be fair they didn’t connect together that well. It appeared a little forced. However I did try various old cracked screen and another home button that was originally replaced because it was a bit temperamental. I had tried at one point to peel back some of the foam sealer around the connections on the motherboard. I was curious whether I had suffered pry damage. This was mainly instigated as it does boot loop for a while when changing from 0%. No I haven’t cleaned the connectors but I will do that. If I can’t get a plug and play home button working again, do you think one of those earlier JC bluetooth versions may work?

por

@swisstoni Yeah I haven't had any problems with the bluetooth button replacements so that might work if the one you have needs to be forced to connect to the screen.

honestly id take a look at the areas around the connectors . theyre tiny and a lil bump wit ha finger nail or a pry tool could easily pop them off. if you have a jewelers inspection lens you could use that to look around too.

I have had those connections apart probably a dozen times. I have probably worn them out. They company who I bought the screen from have kindly offered to send out another one for me to try. This is good of them because there is a strong possibility there is nothing wrong with their first screen. I found one of those early Bluetooth home button, so I have ordered one up. No an ideal solution but I would probably be happy to have any button working for now. My plan was to eventually get the Touch ID version repaired but whilst I can’t even get a plug and play version working I think I would be wasting my money. I will see what the difference the new screen makes. Is there anything that’s next to those key connectors that could affect the home button only?? I have seen many examples of battery percentage issues and associated boot looping for pry damage but not home button issues.

so to be honest it sounds like either your connector is worn out from removing and reinstalling multiple times, IE bent pin or lifted ribbon pad kinda thing.

it could also be a lifted component on the board by the connectors themselves.

if you have a jewelers inspection lens look at the filters and resistors on the board and make sure none are broken before you get the new cables. also check the female connectors for any bent or missing pins as well.

these things are microscopic so just because you cant see it doesnt mean its not broken on the component level.

i had a resister that was so small that i literally thought was there because the solder joint was so close it looked like it was there. used my microscope after about 4 hours of chasing stuff and i found it. i hot air stationed it and installed a new resister and it was good to go after that!

good luck!

I have uploaded a close up of the two main connectors. Could anybody with experience with logic board repairs advise me if they appear to be OK?? Today I have tried another new screen and home button, but sadly nothing has changed. It sounds like the fault lies with the logic board. ?

so the connectors look ok but there are TINY SMD components un those foam guards and if you reach down too far its VERY easy to pop one of those off and have it mess something up. id say gently peel those up and check to see if everything is there.

Thanks logixal I did actually purchase one of those original JC Bluetooth home buttons as a work around. It did actually function, but has a problem brining up the keyboard in some key applications. I am now seeing numerous comments about this on You Tube etc. Have you had an experience with these or have you steered clear. The vendor is sending me a 2nd one to try. I know hx also produced one.
