MacBook Pro won't start and won't charge

I have a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15 inches, Mid 2012), recently replaced the battery ourselves with an ifixit kit (MacBook Pro 15" Retina (Mid 2012-Early 2013) Battery, Fix Kit. SKU: EU117047-5). This was fitted at the beginning of February and had given the mac a new lease of life.

But unfortunately, it was being used last week it ran out of charge even though the MagSafe charger had a green light on it, it ran out of power.

I have since tried another power supply that has the same green light on, and also not charging. I have tried resetting the SMC but nothing seems to work or power it up. If I press the power button the no charge icon appears on the screen and the MagSafe light stays green.

Has anyone any ideas? could it be the logic board or is there anything else that can try?

Do you still have your old battery? If you do carefully unplug the installed battery and give your old battery a try placing your system on its side so you can still access the MagSafe port.

Does the charger LED go to Amber and/or will it startup even if you only see the fan move a bit.

Hi Dan, thanks for the advice. I connected the old battery and the system rebooted and worked, but there was very little power in the old battery and it kept shutting down, but it did reboot. The LED stayed on green and didn’t go Amber, so wasn’t charging the old battery either. Does this mean the logic board is ok? Or does this explain something else is broken. Could it be the MagSafe DC-In Board is faulty? Or does anything else come to mind?

Further update.

I restarted a few times and couple of times it fully starts up being able to log on, I can see the battery says it’s at least 30% power. But then shuts down before I can do anything else.

Tryed a few more times and now the boot up bar gets to 2/3 along the bar before shuts down.

I will contact ifixit about replacing the battery. But I’m still concerned that even with a new battery fitted will it charge?

Because with the old battery connected the MagSafe still isn’t charging this old battery either, so I’m thinking is there any other issue?

@beetlebug - Yes that's possible! But if you followed the procedure to calibrate your battery you should have noted the MagSafe LED going from Green to Amber and back to Green. Did you not see this? I assume you've been using your system for awhile was the MagSafe ever lit as you used the charger?

I would review this Apple T/N Apple Portables: Troubleshooting MagSafe adapter to make sure your charger is in good shape. Are you using the original charger or a replacement? Most of the knockoff chargers can damage your system!

Update, I have removed the new ifixit faulty battery and put the old battery back in, which I hadn't disposed of yet. And boots up and the charger is amber charging. But the battery is again showing as 'service battery', in the Energy Saver tab. So the charger is working and I now need to get a replacement battery form Ifixit. At least I know its not the logic board or worst! Thanks Dan for all your help and advice in getting to the bottom of the issue.
