Possible battery leak idk

Hi,

I recently bought a secondhand MacBook Pro that needed a bit of repair. I opened it and discovered quite a bit of sticky solvent all over the battery. Now, I’m not quite sure what that was. I’m thinking it’s either a leaking battery or someone spilled it quite a bit of Coke onto the MacBook. I’m thinking it looks a bit more like soda, when I cleaned it off using a slight amount of water, it looked like Coca-Cola in color, but Obviously I’m wondering, is it safe to use this MacBook. There is a certain spot that looks like it could’ve penetrated deeper down. I will try and attach a picture. So it’s not really that clear to see on the photograph. Please advise.

Time to fully pull the battery & logic board out to inspect for more spillage also look for corrosion damage MacBook Pro 15" Unibody Early 2011 Logic Board Replacement Use distilled water and 85% or better Isopropyl alcohol using cotton swabs or small cotton pads on larger areas.

Would it be safe to power on battery in current state? Machine ‘works fine’.

Have to admit I’m not super technical with the hardware. Do I risk clumsying it up even more messing around with the components?

@opux - Clearly the seller was not honest on the systems condition. So you need to look at how much you have already spent and if you can return it to get your funds back, or find someone local who has the needed skills to help you ($$) You may need a part or two as well here.

That’s for sure. Doubt I can return it though as it’s been with me for a few months now, Just sitting. Thing is, the computer does work, I was just ‘lucky’ to open it and inspect. I mean, I’m not too fuzzed about if it fails, obviously my concern is if it’s dangerous to keep using it in terms of battery. Like I don’t want it exploding in my face
