Boot loading bar gets halfway and hangs

My computer has been in a closet for over a year and I tried to start it to clean it up for my grandchild.

When I turn it on, I hear a “gong” then the Apple logo appears and once the loading bar gets halfway, it just hangs and gets stuck. It was just staying illuminated like that.

I tried to start it in a safe mode by pressing SHIFT and restarting. The result was similar but now it goes dark after it gets about 1/3 of boot.

Did you plug in the MagSafe charger in? What is the color of the connector Amber or Green? If Amber let it be! Check it in eight hours is it still Amber?

@danj Agree but then it coould have been stated in your answer to be more clear, there are loads of unanswered questions that need answers to help anyone out if they have the same or similar problems.

Sounds like a very similar issue I had. Connect up the charger and try running apple diagnostics (Power up and hold 'D') follow the prompts to see what comes up in the results and post it for us to see.

@livfe - As I explained Apple broke Diagnostics, which is why you get this error. This has no bearing here.
