@Rajukumar Reddy - I would suspect the drive was not fully setup. You do need to format the drive with GUID journaled file system (HFS+) and then copy the OS installer to the drive and then convert it to a bootable file.

How to create a bootable macOS High Sierra installer drive

And if you don't have it here the updated Installer file How to upgrade to macOS High Sierra Jump down to Step 4, make sure you click on the Blue URL labeled Get macOS High Sierra to get the installer file, you'll need to unpack it before you install it to the drive.

Here's more on why you need this file Vs any older ones If you've got an old macOS install image, it will probably stop working today

I have been through the same procedure and now I am sitting with 2 damaged USBs. I think this is a bug, it doesn't work at all for me.

So i downloaded the sierra.dmg file from apple's website. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT211683

After that, I have no idea what to do. Inside that dmg file is a InstallOS.pkg, which, if i use belana etcher or transmac simply formats the flash drive appropriately and then copies the InstallOS.pkg to the drive and nothing else.

I have an M1 mac mini and I am unable to download a sierra install to create install media for a older Intel Based MBP.

I was able to download a ventura installer and use the terminal to create a bootable usb. So that worked great. But i need sierra or something older.

Can anyone point me in a direction to unpack this .pkg file via windows or an m1 mac?

@spicyramentt - First your M1 system can’t use Sierra! Next, TransMac only works on Windows PCs and I haven’t been able get it to create a workable format for a Mac boot disk if that is what you are trying to do.

So what is the goal here? What is the system you are trying install a older macOS onto?

@Dan have you come up with any solutions for creating bootable macos on a pc?
