WiFi fluctuating between on and off

Earlier today, the WiFi connection on my MacBook Pro decided to randomly switch off and then switch on again on its own. I was on a skype call and in the background was running both the chrome and safari browsers. The WiFi connecting has been toggling back and forth every 2 seconds when ever the laptop is switched on. And it has been doing this for the past 8 hours.

It’s not a router issue cause other devices including another older MacBook Pro from mid 2009 is connecting fine.

A malware scan came back negative. Can someone please suggest how to go about finding out what’s causing this and how to go about fixing it? Thank you.

If you think the issue is software related, I would recommend reinstalling the OS. It’s possible though, that this is due to a failing AirPort card. See this guide for replacement steps. If you have a kind friend or know somebody with the same model MacBook Pro, you can try installing their AirPort card to see if this resolves the issue.

The AirPort board tends to fail hard, not sporadically.

The area I focus on in this series is the I/O cable connection which tends to breakdown. See if reseating the cable as well as the AirPort card helps other wise you’ll need to replace the I/O Data Cable

The other area I find is the antenna cables get damaged at the hinge area from all of the lid movement, which is a big job as you need to take the display fully off MacBook Pro 13" Retina Display Mid 2014 Display Assembly Replacement and here’s the needed part 13” MacBook Pro - Right Hinge, Antenna/iSight cable
