My eject button now only tries to eject tapes and will not even attempt to open the compartment at all, I’ve looked and cannot find the manual. Can someone offer some help?

You likely have a broken part in the lift mechanism. You’ll need to open it up to see if you can figure it out. Here’s a unit which is beening sold as parts Vintage Realistic Voice Actuated Cassette Recorder Ctr-75 You might want to look at it and then fix yours.
