iPhone 6S Restore Unknown Error (10) after trying to update to iOS 13

Hello everyone,

My iPhone is stuck on restore.

I backed it up to update it to iOS 13. Then I unplugged it and plugged again to my Macbook Pro (High Sierra), it was normally recognized. I tried to update the software, but nothing happened after I pressed "Update". Therefore, I forced it into recovery mode (Home + ON/OFF button). It worked, then at the beginning of the iOS installation an error suddenly appears in iTunes:

'The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (10).'

iTunes is updated. Lighting cable is original. iPhone has been used for a year, never suffered a damage before.

Tried forcing recovery mode out through TinyUmbrella but nothing happens:

Also tried DFU mode but happens the same.

Any help would be valuable.

This issue has something to do with a minor software update specifically for the iPhone. We have two computers at work and one of them prompted a download and install of an "iPhone Software Update for Mac OS" when iTunes was opened. It was a small pop up window, I regret not taking a screenshot of it. After the install we had no issues. The secondary iMac did not prompt us for the download and we cannot update or restore any iPhone to iOS 13. Source: iPhone, iPad & Mac repair store.

I would recommend you reset the phone back to factory settings then try the update again.

The phone can't be restored to factory settings because it's in restore mode. I can't use it for anything else. Tried DFU and Tinyumbrella to force it out restore mode but didn't work.

I have the same issue right now you have any luck @juanse1493 ?

Okay, so I managed to fix it.

It was the flex that goes from the charging port to the main board. It was making short. Perhaps for using a not Apple charger, who knows….

Luckily, it didn’t burn the baseband or other components.

Thanks to those who tried to help!

Hey what did you mean by A flex from the charging port to mainboard? I’m having the same issue and I want to fix it please help thank you

I was having this issue, turns out the phone I was trying to restore didn’t have a SIM card.

I then put a sim card in and tried again and it’s restored and working perfect :)

my fix for this was just to use another charging cord ... and bingo! no more problem. Vijay

Same here. I used a different cable and it worked. (restoring an iPhone 6S on macOS high sierra 10.13.6)

@bookdjvirus Sorry, I just read this. The flex is the bus between the battery and the main board.

Is doing the same to me right now, so, I changed and I tried not to restore but only to update. When I choose update the Mac told me that it was impossible and I need to restore it, so I tried one more time and it was working. I have my new iOS 13.1 now in my iPhone .

Thanks. I tried several times to restore or update but none of this options work. When trying to update iTunes forces it to 'restore and update'. After extracting the software and the progress bar in the iPhone starts, the error message appears "'The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (10).'"

So it's been impossible...

I was trying a DFU restore as a last resort after my SE kept restarting and have been rewarded with this error. My Mac Mini is not up to date but will Ben upgraded to Catalina. Am I looking at two separate issues or something more sinister with the phone?

Following “Sales” 9/26/2019 comment. The restore and update was failing with Error (10) once the restore was canceled and the update was selected, iTunes prompted with a needed software update. Installed the update and was able to restore and update.

For those who are struggling…

My problem was solved changing a hardware piece: the bus flex.

If you can’t force restore, check hardware components.
