Broken Trackpad Ribbon Cable Connector

Block Image

My dad was cleaning the trackpad in his mac and this connector (not his actual logicboard) quite literally fell off the board (my guess is it had gotten very brittle over time, or was a manufacturing issue.).

I need a replacement connector to solder on to the board. all i can find is the connector for the keyboard, but i need the trackpad connector.

*I do not need the ribbon cable I need the pin connector the cable goes into* where the arrow is pointing

Thank you everyone!

Update! I opened it back up and took some pictures so you can see what I'm talking about! THANK YOU EVERYONE who's responded so far! I appreciate it.

I counted 18 pins on this connector but I can't find anything on Google for “18 pin trackpad connector apple MacBook pro".

If no luck getting the info here you might want to try the following : https://old.reddit.com/r/AskElectronics/

If a search of that reddit doesn't produce any relevant results, then you may feel like fielding your query in that reddit.

Please see the following paragraph posted by the AutoModerator as an example of the information that should be supplied with your query:

Are you sure you actually have an Early 2015? I would double-check... That's probably throwing people off a bit.

Thank you for the fast response but I need the logic board pin connector. Not the cable.

You ned someone to do micro soldering to fix that. Give Louis Rossmann a shot:

https://rossmanngroup.com

He's a PITA and vulgar but does fine work.

Now I’m no microsoldering or logic board expert, I think you’re looking for a 48-pin trackpad connector (knowing how many pins you need definitely helps finding parts). The Apple product number for that part appears to be 516S1037 (or maybe also J4802) and the only seller I could find based on that information is https://beetstech.com/product/macbook-pr.... I have not heard of this company so obviously YMMV. Annoyingly, they don’t have product photos to confirm, but the listing looks good.

The generic name for this connector is DF40BG-48DP-0.4V and you could probably find more results with that search term elsewhere, maybe Aliexpress or the like?

Thank you! I counted 18 pins so I'm not sure about the 48 pin connector

Correct. That's the trackpad connector for a 2015 but I think you have a 2014 or 2013, looking at your image again.

Now operating under the assumption your MacBook is a 2014/2013 model, I can’t seem to find any available online. Apple specific parts at least.

If I were you I would go to Aliexpress and search for “18 pin FFC connector”, there’s going to be a bunch of generic options. It’s just a generic FFC cable and connector, so they should work. I don’t have the measurements on that connector at all (1mm? 0.5mm?) but you should be able to find a match.

Edit: And by measurements, I mean pitch:

Pitch

The spacing of the conductors. The pitch typically refers to the distance from the center of one conductor to the center of its neighboring conductor. A single FFC can have different pitches between different conductors on the same cable, however this is uncommon. FFC cables are available in many pitches, such as 0.500 mm, 0.625 mm, 0.635 mm, 0.800 mm, 1.00 mm, 1.25 mm, 1.27 mm, 2.00 mm, 2.54 mm, but the most common pitches are 0.500 mm and 1.00 mm.

And since people are throwing out logic board repair specialists, I'll recommend http://www.logic-boards.com if you need it done professionally, they're fantastic.
