Troubleshooting kindle: is it socket or battery that is broken?

My kindle 8th gen suffered a heavy impact drop. The screen was not damaged and for a few days would show the entirety of the home screen when I plugged it in to charge but it would not hold any battery. Soon it stopped recognizing that it was plugged in at all (no light). Now I want to self-repair but am not sure if it's the battery or the socket that needs replacing. Have taken apart components and nothing appears broken or disconnected..

Any help greatly appreciated, want to understand how these things work.

I wonder why there is no troubleshoot for kindle 8th? Is it not so different from the 7th?

Update: post alcohol clean, we now have a flickering green light!

@howly owl Yes, sorry, I should have been more specific. The four points that connect to the board, 2 on each side, are generally the grounding points.

Ah didn't see this reply. I have now cleaned it with isopropyl alcohol and a brush and plugged it back in to charge. The connection is flickering the green light (see pic) but it doesn't seem to want to turn on. What could this mean?

How much would it cost to send it in to be fixed professionally?

That's progress at least! It might be still having connection issues. It can also be a battery issue. We can fix it at our shop. I'm not sure if advertising is allowed, but visit imasterrepair . com and you can call or chat with us. We would probably charge about $60 for something like this, and we'd re-solder or apply a new port to this board, or get you a new battery.

If it isn’t recognizing that it is plugged in at all it is likely the charge port/socket. If you’ve tried multiple cables I’d start with the charge port and go from there. Does it fee loose when you plug in it? Some charge ports on the kindle do require soldering though. Let us know how it goes!

Thanks for your response. I have attached some photos now. There is no light now when I try multiple different chargers. Perhaps the socket was damaged by the drop? There was also potentially some liquid damage as a jar of horseradish smashed in the bag with the kindle. Do you think it is salvagable?

The picture of the back side of the board looks like there might be some corrosion near the grounding points of the connector. I'm wondering if that could be the reason it isn't working. You can clean that by unplugging the battery, then using a toothbrush dipped in alcohol and scrub off the corrosion. I'd start there, and a new charge port may be necessary. I have seen some instances where a bad battery wont charge, so if not the port the next thing would be a battery, like you suggested.

Yes, sorry, I should have been more specific. The four points that connect to the board that come down from the charge port, 2 on each side, are generally the grounding points.
